Hi Sis Cat. I think I looked this one up when I was going through your youtube story telling videos. At least I think it was this one. I like the tribute to your favorite hang out. You do these well. Enjoyable and you make it feel like we are there with you enjoying the experience with you. Well done and good luck. xoxo Kiwi

Yes, Kiwi, I want the reader to experience what I experienced. Only smell-o-rama and taste-o-rama are missing, but I got close. Thank you for your review.

Sis Cat...and I say your name so pleasantly and with loving admiration,

I get so excited when ever I see that you have posted. I eagerly click on the message just to even see the title of your post - then - I smile, goofy like Jaime, my little boy did when he was excited about the puzzles.

because...

I am never disappointed. Your poems and stories go though my like smooth chocolate ice cream (my favorite treat if I am going to cheat) Your poetry feeds my memories and soothes my soul like good wind and smooth jazz. I love hearing from you, my friend and this piece is full of fun and wonderful - ness. Below are some of my favorite lines and why:

I have never seen anyone play on the word melt this way, so unique and in a way ir defines the word best.

Ice cubes mmm-e-l-t.

Wow, lemon trees and the home made meringue pies and chiffon cakes! How I admire and yet envy that reality. I remember our cherry tree, pear tree, apple tree, grape vines but mama never made those pies. Oh but she could bake, boy could she bake. What a marvelous memory and gave me memories.

And memories of a backyard lemon tree
which fed us meringue pies
and chiffon cakes
baked by our mother
who called herself "Yeller Gal."

This line made me think of my favorite condiment on hot dogs, relish. So i felt that this was another genius play on words. Terric...

Nothing tastes as sweet
as memories relished again--
or as bitter.

I loved the spacing to stress the timing that it took to prolong the moment of eating the fries one at a time.

We ate our fries
one at a time
to pro-looong the moment
and we nibbled our red hot dogs
as red tour buses passed.

Thank you for this sensational poem and wonderful memories. Also thank you for my usual smile and walk with you.

Well, Tier, I must say that I admire your poetry as much as you admire mine. Your words are a light shining in darkness. There is no other FanStory poet quite like you. You are unique and talented and I am thrilled to read your work.

Thank you for your generous, six star review and for pointing out the lines you loved and the memories they generated.

Congratulations, also, on your nomination for Poem of the Month.

    May God bless you.

Thank you Sis Cat: That nomination came to me as a surprise. The last nomination - I knew who (which two) nominated me for "Mother Song" but this one for "Faded Duffel Bags" I can only guess. I am extremely honored though, and flattered. Thank you for your compliments and all that you do. Much love, Sis Cat, my friend - much love...

Congratulations on your well deserved WIN. A very nice and interesting poem to read. I like hot dogs, chips (fries) and lemonade too. You did well in your trick in the small font in "mmm e l t". Very clever. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing such a delightful memory. I could just picture it with the classic red stools. I especially liked how you "prolooonged" the french fry moments and the use of "relish" with memories.

I had to read this poem a couple of times to appreciate it.

I do like your style of writing. You have pulled it off in fine style by winning a contest. Innovative and engaging.

A good poem. :) Mel.

I hope your ode is well received by "Rattle," and if you haven't already shared it with Pink's, please do. I especially enjoyed your yellow background saluting "Yeller Gal" and lemonade plus your font mimicking ice melt, along with your comments about "memories" and "footprints". I only regret not having a six to award this gem. Many kudos for winning the contest. Cheers- Joan

Hi Andre

Congratulations on your WIN! I saw this contest entry and was enticed by your title and image. I missed getting to it in time ... I can well see why it won.

Such fun and I enjoyed your recitation on youtu.be

Aussies aren't into hotdogs as you guys in the US, we do relish our pies and hamburgers though. Somehow it is still exciting and the smells, sounds and yumminess can bring an Aussie to their knees drooling for a taste of those hot dogs and fries -- extra special ... fresh squeezed lemonade, loved ones, and memories. So much in a relatively short poem. I love the reference to your mother's pies flavoured with lemons fresh picked from your back yard.

"Nothing tastes as sweet
as memories relished again--
or as bitter." - excellent phrasing and the sweet/bitter contrast and metaphor.

I've enjoyed your juxtaposition of handprints in the stars on the side-walk and your concluding verse. Cute little font trick with "mmm e l t". A superb win. Congrats for getting it published. Hugs - Lovi
