Brilliant Willie. Took me back to those times too. We must be around the same age. Of course we had to stand for the Queen's Anthem, seats were wooden and when we stood all you could hear was slamming seats.
Black and white Mickey mouse cartoons and the ice cream boy delivered tiny containers of ice cream with wooden paddle-sticks to eat it. Great days Willie!

What a delightfully engaging, well crafted narrative. I truly enjoyed your trip down memory lane. By the time I came along many of the things you recount were available for viewing on television. Though they no longer cost a dime; the memories are priceless. Thanks for sharing. Excellent work!

I remember those days, Willie. My mother sold tickets at the theater, so I got in free. The serials played on Saturdays. The westerns were my favorites.

WHat wonderful memories to record in a poem!! So much has changed! A well written rhyme with excellent flow. I love the way you ended with "cost me and my girlfriend a dime!" That is a terrific line! Thanks for sharing this.

I enjoyed you memorable write here Willie, although my young movie visits were much later, I remember the entry fee was 9d and 3d for an ice lolly! This came to one old shilling which is equivalent to 5 pence in today's English currency. Life seems so simple back then and has gotten so complex today with all our devices, phones, laptops and tablets. I enjoyed the serenity in your words here, love Dolly x

The best part about growing old is the stories we get to tell the younger generations. Things were simple back then. We had to work hard, but we had a lot of fun. Looking forward to reading more of your work.

I remember when movies were a quarter. I loved Saturday matinees. I really enjoyed taking this stroll down memory lane with you. Very nice job. Good luck in the contest.

and a gallon of gas was thirty-five cents!!!
and we rode bikes all over everywhere and parents didn't worry.
and we didn't lock our doors most of the time.
And boys were protective of girls.
I lived those times too. They were the best. We were lucky.
Loved your neat poem! It brought back memories (as you could tell) :)
Best of luck to you in the contest.

I relate completely, which means we are about the same age. The world has changed so much in the past fifty years and become so expensive, it just doesn't feel the same. It was fun when it didn't cost so much to live. Simpler times, different generations. The newer times are full of ever changing progress and bears watching warily.

These were the days. You could actually take your children to see the movies. Thank you for your review and stars.
