An interesting question. Indeed what good is he when he has lost himself? Is the loss he has suffered worth the thing that he has become? Is the lie worth the truth that has been sacrificed?

Really, what good is a man? When expression is lost in a man and undue silence prevails his heart, definitely, his muse, his content and context would be messed up and misunderstood. What good is really a man to himself then? This is so philosophically thoughtful.

Hello Deepwater,
Thought provoking piece of poetry beautifully depicting the fact that being oblivious of one's soul is just like leading a life of living death.
Impressive and matching the theme wording.
Picture complements the theme.
"What good is a man to himself when his soul is denied?"
Excellent!

'What good is a man' is an extremely well-written and thought-provoking piece. My only quibble is why there isn't a question mark after the title? It was a pleasure to read this poet's work.

My very first thought is - all is lost and the soul is hopelessly irretrievable.

The first line itself is already fatal blow. To himself, the man has no more self-respect. All self value gone and so ashamed to face the world. In this case, the illustration speaks volumes. Body and soul bared, devoid of protection. So vulnerable must the soul be.

Having gone through all these misfortunes, who is to blame?
And to the man, who can he blame? Is it fate or free will?

it is a sad state of affairs-his actions are misunderstood, his feelings wrongly misinterpreted, and selflessness results in his own destruction. The line "his mind lost in the translation os unspoken words'- is powerful

The first gut wrenching inquiry in this compelling commentary sets the stage for the bombardment of the answers which are hurdled back. They sting like angry wasps that have been aroused from their hive. When these principles have indeed been violated, yes, then the question should be asked - "what good is a man?" Well done.

Till the last amen

Thought provoking. Interesting. I'm about halfway there in understanding the message. Seems that this man is sacrificing his own wants and needs for duty, and he can't bring himself to say that he can't go on this way. He must think of himself or live as a prisoner. He needs to speak up and shout: I can't do this anymore. I need to be free.

Difficult place to be, but many end up there.

Hi GW,

I think in present day, many are left to ponder that very question. Where do they fit in, and then if they figure it out, the must figure out HOW to get from A to B.

Thought provoking. Well done.

Cheers & Blessings

Dear deepwater, You are on a roll! Another great poem. Your first line is very good. I love poems that are deep and make me think. I also love the artwork that you chose to go with your poem. Thank you for sharing, Shirley
