Yikes, you really have a powerful pen. I was thinking you should write a novel. You sure have the passion and the subject matter. Hope you are doing okay.

Unfortunately not such an uncommon occurance, either in those times or these, dw, hmm? "just our body's" (bodies) ... but you capture the feeling, and the era, well :)S

This is so very sad and happens more than we would like to know. The letter is written beautifully with a wonderful photograph to accompany. Thanks for posting.

deepwater,

Your thoughts are well described. Parts made me chuckle and parts were sad...so bittersweet. The theme is strong. Your feelings are expressed well. Your arrangement looks very nice. The flow is smooth.

There was no SPAG. No room for improvement.

Love you,

Oatmeal

Very vivid picture of heart break. The photo is excellent and relevant. I can feel the hurt, the emotion of the memories and the sadness at knowing the relationship is over. I sense the death of a dream and the death of a relationship. Message well expressed. Thanks

This is a lovely free verse poem, Gary. I very much like that the soldier is writing to his wife and recapping their first meeting and all that happened to them thereafter. I like the repetition of "I remember." Your words flow well. Nice use of internal rhyme. A sad ending.

There are a few spags that you might want to correct: 6th line: bodies; 9th line: new lives; 11th line: brings

Well done, Gary! Thank you for sharing. Alana

this is an excellent write, deepwater, you did an excellent job portraying the love and hope the soldier felt, but when he was fighting for freedom, his wife found comfort in the arms of another so he lost his zest to come back home. I enjoyed reading it

The "Dear John Letter," is the cruelest thing a love one can receive in combat. This is very well written with a smooth flow of words, making for a very interesting read.
