Wow, I wish I still had a six for this amazing story, Beth. Not only is it flawless technically, but it is also a compelling and poignant tale with characters so real that the reader becomes immersed, praying for the young couple's fortune to change when the money is found to be ruined.
Exceptional descriptions and pacing, too, in addition to dialogue that anyone can imagine saying.

Thank you, Dawn. I appreciate the thought. I'm glad you liked the story. I remember it from being told about it from my mother.

Hi Beth, that was a very nail-biting story. The way you described the couple and what they had to go through to save that money showed their desire to better their lives and to own their own piece of land. How you detailed their disappointment in what should have been their joyous moment was heartbreaking. I'm glad this finally worked out well 0 many non-fiction moments like this do not.

Thank you so much Thesis. These two became my parents when I arrived on the scene. I'm telling this story as my mom related it ot me.

Where there is a will there is a way, and God helped them to find it. I am so happy that Lucille found a solution. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the next chapter.

This is very interesting and the situation and dialogues appear authentic. We bought our first house last year and it would feel like a nightmare, should something happen to the funds put aside for our mortgage. Many readers will relate to the scenario. I'm so glad the sun got rid of the white mold. Sounds like a miracle. Excellent writing!
Just one note
fine white pow(d)er
Best wishes,
Alex

Thank you so Alex. I appreciate the review. This is the story as my mom told it to me. So I believe it to authentic. The dialogue may not be exact but probably close.

I bet it is. I understand because I heard stories from my mom too. The funny thing is, whether or not it was, my mom would add "it's true," at the end, so who would question that. It made people laughed when I recalled that with other cute things. at her wake. My mom was born in 1931. I was her youngest, and boy could she tell stories. I do empathize with you.
Alex :)

An excellent story. I can see this happening and I know the feeling of being cold and hugging a pot belly stove. I bet they trusted banks after this experience.

Yes, I remember your story of your parents and what a heart-stopping thing to have all their hard-earned, carefully saved money appearing worthless until the mold came off. Well told!
You probably already fixed:
we have left for ggs. (eggs)
I don't ever want to own anyone (owe)
ajoining Glover' father land, (Glover's father's)

Thanks you Helen. I knew you would remember. I'm starting to think you have total recall. I wrote it first as fiction and the names were different among many other things. I have made those corrections but thank you for notivcing

As I've said many times, I'm a big sucker for happy endings, and this chapter left me with a big smile on my face. It also got me to thinking about cornbread and a big ol' pot of beans with onions, a ham hock or smoked jowl bacon, or both. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you RIc. Now you've got me thinking about cornbread, beans and onions. My daughter told me yesterdau she was craving blackeyes and cornbread. Either would work for me but I definitely want the onions.

I'm with you. I want onions and garlic on everything. :-)

"Glover's father land" should Glover's father's land.
Seems all is well that turned out well, getting rid of that mold.
The old coot would have taken their home no doubt.
Drying that money out in the sun wise idea.
Burn the mortgage note and the old man too.

Good morning, Beth....What a wonderful blessing for Lucille and Andrew. I fear I would have fainted on the spot in misery. Her quick thinking and the proverbial clothesline saved the day. A truly wonderful rendering of their efforts to survive and move forward. Well done!

I thought of that too. I was so glad when they found it dry. I get so invested sometimes in your stories. I can breath a little easier now. You wrote this with a lot of feeling. Good work. Karen

Beginnings can be difficult. So much stuff in our heads and it all wants to come out at once sometimes. We aren't always in charge I find. :-)
