This is a far-reaching look up your family tree leading to Uncle Willy. The family looks to have a lot of enduring struggle to succeed throughout the years in the South. Uncle Willy comes off as a regular guy of his times who was actually a bit ahead of his peers.

I told you I saved this for a six! I could spend all day just listening to you spin yarns of your family and extended family. Can't wait till you tell how you met your husband. My brother had problems and never had a wife, but, like your relative, he loved going to fairs and winning prizes.

I always (usually) have time, but this is another one that I felt deserved extra stars.

Good one, Beth. I can see this happening with Willie. He gave a few things to develop in his life and finally found his Nitch. Hope the old boy got it right with the Lord.

Beth, this is a well-written story. I thought your family history is interesting. I, too, have done genealogy work, and found some family coming to Texas from Mississippi, after the Civil War.

The only note is that the sub heading says presegregation, I don't think that is what you mean. Good work. Terry.

Thank you Terry, You are right. I meant preintregration. My Mississippl relatives went to Port Author and and Houston and now they scattered all over Texas. I appreciate you noticing the. You are the only one who did.

It's sad that people often judge others (even ones they don't know) by where they live...such as Mississippi and racism. It's not right but it happens. Actually, you can find good and bad everywhere... often within the same person. I love how you tell your family history and show us that things change throughout time, but we can't help how things were. Great job!
Smiles, Carol

Thank you for the review on my story about Uncle Willie. Mississippi had a bad reputation. It has improved some but not enough.

Your memories of Uncle Willie are touching and caring here Beth and we have those people in our past that make a difference to our lives and I enjoyed your warm and loving story here. Thank you Dolly. It is good to know we are the judge and everyone has something we can like about them if we look for it.

People are indeed a mix of "good" and "bad". There are some people who call themselves Christians but are very racist - I don't understand this, but they somehow justify it. In any case it's not our role to judge anyone else. I found your story about Uncle Willie very interesting an authentic for that time time and place. Well done.

Thanks for sharing about your Uncle Willie. Unfortunately, the state of Mississippi has the reputation of people like your uncle and his friend Bilbo. It's in Hollywood movies etc. But you are not like them. So that's why your book is so important. You have to show that people shouldn't paint all of Mississippi people with the same broad brush as racists.

Thank you Helen. Yes. Mississippi had a bad reputation and one of the most influential men in the state wanted to keep it that way.
    I appreciate the review.
