Thank you for this piece on a much underrated creature. Nicely written and your glossary at the end saved me having to get the dictionary out. Some interesting dung beetle facts, too.

...Astonishing subject matter:-) I was reading a book in which Sisyphus (called Cy in the story) was a character (The Game, by Diana Wynne Jones). As for the dung beetles, we have them here. I sometimes note them kicking on their backs like cast tortoises on the cattle lane. I nudge them upright with a stem of dry grass. This was so unexpected I couldn't help serving up a six. So sue me.

That?s brilliant, Sallyo. I laughed out loud as I was writing it. They are improbable heroes, but tough little b?.rs. Thank you for sharing my quirky take on life. I suspect we will be in the minority when it comes to the judging, but, hey ho!
