Hi Bill,
Have you ever had steamed mussels? They're called blue mussels in Prince Edward Island. You dip them in melted butter... Mmm Good! Not my favorite seafood, though. I like sauteed scallops! Lobster is nice, too. Especially a lobster roll with a side of potato salad from Spinney's Restaurant in St. Martins. We haven't been there in two years. Gotta be like Paul McCartney and "Get Back!" at least once before this summer ends.
When we vacation in PEI, it's always fun to look at the bottom of the ocean bed and find the telltale tracks of a hermit crab. They are fun to watch... the hunchbacks of salty waves! Everyone needs a home these days, and rent is so steep!
Cheers,
Kimbob

I loved your little story here as nothing is wasted in nature, not even a shell. It is a pity about the previous occupant though, a fun post Bill, I always love your inventive posts, love Dolly x

I did worse. My children had hermit crabs for "pets' at one stage, and they lived in an acquarium. When I noticed them immobile and not eating, I assumed they were dead and threw them out. My kids were distraught, reminding me that they hibernated during winter. Thanks for sharing your story.

I've got a "think-they're-dead-but-they're-not" kitten story that will creep you out.

Really?! Because a couple of years ago I wrote a story about my cat who died and then came back to life half an hour later!!

I think I wouldn't want to eat the mussel after I had robbed it of his shell. Oh poor beastie! I guess the hermit crab was very happy to get a roomy new home! Fun story!

We were sure it was a giant spider, because we were rather dim.

Oh, a good entry for the 75 Word Flash Fiction contest! This looks like a dandy. Guess that hermit crab fitted a wee bit snugger in his new shell which yaw provided! You can't blame him for a new home! Yeah, have you heard of a ghost crab? I wish you luck in this contest! When will the voting booth open? Seen a few of these over the past couple of days.

This is free of contest.

Great story. Well written with a creative twist. It triggered a memory that I used to have two conch shells. One real from the Grenadines and one fake from a thrift shop in California. Both have disappeared. Hmmmmm
Good luck in the contest, Bill.

Hahaha! Definitely no "of course" for ME. I would have continued to imagine it was haunted! What a sight that must have been. Very fun tale, and well done with only seventy-five words. Neat picture, too! xo

lol There is nothing scarier than a haunted mussel. I had one several nights ago in the calf of my left leg and that sucker scared the life out of me so bad I ran down the hall screaming! thanks for sharing.

I hope you're not shell shocked now.

This sounds like something that could really have happened to you. Years ago, in Hunter, NY, I had a delicious fra diaviolo with mussels, but other than that, the only one I know who relly loves mussels in Popeye.

He might like "muskles" more. This did happen as a matter of fact.

You're right. I wasn't thinking of his vernacular.
