Well Beth thank you so much for sharing with us this marvelous story. You lead an interesting life although you probably didn't feel like it was that interesting at the time. It is the magical story that so often impacts hearts in ways that we never would believe. Your story, is impacting me. Thank you.
Possible typo:

Thank you for reviewing another of my stories and noticing the missing question mark. I so glad you find my stories interesting and impactful.

You are certainly welcome Beth. I think you know if I point something out it's not meant to be criticism.

I love it when people catch the things I miss.

I would not say I am a good writer but I definitely would say that FanStory authors have made me better by pointing out my structural mistakes and typos.

Your stories of the past are enriched with fine details Beth and also filled with historical facts. The post years were filled with optimism and forward thinking, but the weather is often a constant battle. I enjoyed your fine tale of the past here, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly. In many ways there were some good things in those days. We weren't as distrustful or as likely to turn again someone who didn't think like we did.

Once again you talked about things that made me reminisce. I had a set of World Book Encyclopedias. My sisters and I would rush home from school and pick a subject to look up, like dogs. flags, various cultures, and I loved the history of fashion design and clothes people wore from around the world.
You remember a lot, like teacher's names. You also reference the political climate of the time, which adds to the authenticity of your story. I'm enjoying reading about the chapters of your life.

I'm glad you mentioned to me to read this post in order for you to get #15...
I enjoyed it. I remember having an encyclopedia set,
Funk & Wagnels. I also enjoyed "thumbing" through them (I wasn't much of a reader).
Imagine a teacher saying this today- "If you don't behave, I'm going to peel you and pepper you and slide you down a razor blade."
She would never teach again!
Thanks for posting,
John

Thank you, John, It is aways good to get to the 15 review if not the 26. It is hard to believe a teacher back then could get away with saying that. Today parents would be up in arms if she said that to their child. Teacher could get away with a lot more back then.

Like you I was a prolific reader, although a lot of what I read were comics, although they were intermingled with many worthwhile and recognised as healthy publications by which I learned of other realms other than the world I lived in, I think God was looking after us even then, beautifully written, blessings Roy

Thank you Roy. I remember back in the forties they had Bible stories written in a comic book format probably because it would be more likely kids would read them. My mom used to buy those for me but liked books better than comics.

Yes, they have them

What an amazing love for learning you had. It would be rare these days for children to thirst after knowledge to that degree. And I don't think children do much recitation any more either. Well written.

Thank you Wendy. Surely the curiosity isn't completely gone from children, I hope not. It is easy to look up things you wonder about these days. I find myself still digging for answers with my computer search engine.

Wow, you were such a Brainiac in elementary school! I am so impressed that you read the entire World Book series! No wonder you loved learning and writing.
I'm sorry to hear that your rival made it extra hard to enjoy your time in the spotlight. You made laugh when you said her father would pay to have someone keep her quiet!

Thank you Helen. I'm not Bainiac. I had the curiosity of a cat and my questions weren't always answered to my satisifaction. Some of the things I read, weren't that interesting, but even now I'm looking upthings all day on the internet. The world is a facinating place. The probably is I don't retain it all.

Please forgive any tardiness. I was without my computer for much of the day. I'm hurrying through tons of messages. I don't want to slight you but at least I wanted to rate you. I love your series.

This is a terrific accounting of your life during this post-war period, It is amazing of how much were given to study and recite back when knowledge in books was so hard to get to. It is just amazing what we can do when we have to.

Thank you BIll. I really appreciate the excellent supportive review. Yes, in those days I thing did more with a lot less. We have too much available to us now and we've either lazy or overwhelmed. I appreciate the six stars.

Hi Beth, I just love this. Yes before all the computers we had books to teach us what we knew. We still got books which do that. To say we have a choice, back then we didn't. Although I'm younger than you, it wasn't much different in the cities and sixties when I grew up. This is such a joy to read. How lucky you were to get those books. Ulla xcx
