I'm not sure what rioting is supposed to achieve, but I don't think that it dies very much, except perhaps anger God, in a rift that seems to be growing by the day, it certainly smells of the sulphur that pours from volcanoes, beautifully written, blessings Roy

I just love a good poem about nature. And this is what I thought this was until I read on. That's so sad that monuments of been so disrespected and uncared for! I can feel the sense of frustration you have and rightly so! I'm glad you were able to vent ot out in your poem, well done!
Best Wishes

Thanks for the excellent review and your sympathy for the theme here. My point is really that experience is complicated, history is not black and white. Iconoclasts can try to erase history, but these things mean different things to different people and there are those who get swept away in these events. And their feelings are just as valid as those who do the sweeping. estory

Yes I get what you mean. History is amongst us is so precious and should be carefully preserved.
Have a lovely day x

Different but good. Thanks for sharing and I do like different. Remembering, Remembering, which is something we all do. New replaces the ruins and so it all goes on. Welcome back to the site.
Take care and have a wonderful day.

I enjoyed reading your reflective poem. It also makes me reflect over how things are changing so fast in my little environment and the world at large. Thanks for sharing your reflection. We pray tomorrow be better than yesterday. Well done, dear Estory.

Thanks for the excellent review and I am glad it got so many people thinking. History is complicated, it is not black and white, and the feelings of those who are swept away by iconoclasts are just as valid as those who do the sweeping. We need more empathy and less demagogary. estory

I like how you reflectively comment on society. I especially liked:
"While the ash from the bridges we burned
Settles on the toppled monuments.
Restless audiences"
But if only today's "restless audiences" truly remembered, they would see themselves in the pages of history and question their own actions.

I really enjoyed this poem. Every victor tells one story, while every victim tells a different one. As good as your poem was, I think your author notes should be published separately. They were outstanding. Gretchen

I grew up in China and things changed a lot while I was growing up and after I left. I saw a lot of social upheavals. The parties can make 5 year plans but people can't. The US has had such a long period of peace prosperity that people can become doctors for generations in a family because they know it's a winning strategy. It's not going to be like that anymore. AI will disrupt the establishment. People have to do things that are totally different than before. It's going to be an interesting period to live.
I never liked the book "Dr. Zhivago" but I liked the movie version.
Well done.

Thanks for the excellent review and your interesting perspective on the poem. There are always those who get swept away by these iconoclasts, but I wanted to point out that their feelings are just as valid as those who do the sweeping. We need more empathy and less demegogary. There is no empathy in technology. estory

They might learn to have empathy like the R2D2 in Star Wars.
Comment from Gloria ....
I think you have a fine job here expressing the human yearning for peace and freedom, and yet in some ways these days harken back to the rebellious sixties when social change was marching through the malls and university halls.
The last line, remembering, remembering is poignant in expressing that sorrow.
Much enjoyed. :)

This poem caught my attention, I got the feeling that the days past are far past. Gone are the days of innocent, riots run riot and locking your doors at night, fearful. Well done.

As ever, your notes are as enjoyable as your verse despite the poignancy of the message. The scene you portray is a dystopian one reflecting rioting I imagine was a spin off from that of 2021 on the US Capitol. The imagery of people trudging on and on in their overcoats reminds me of pictures of POW soldiers during the war. It's a powerful post! Well done! Debbie
