This is so sad and one prays for these men. How sad life is seen as expendable. Excellent true story for this contest. I wish you well in the contest.

A compelling story about this tragic real-life event. You've packed a lot into the 50 words allotted you. You make it easy to picture their plight and feel their desperation. Brooke

Is this the Russian submarine that sunk off Norway a number of years ago or is this more recent. A long time ago a Russian submarine was retrieved from the bottom of the Pacific by the CIA. Whether it had nuclear weapons I do not know.
I am doing well and think of you from time to time. I am getting a little nervous mostly about the medications I have to take to clean out my bowl before the colonoscipy. Pleasant thought.. Regards and love Alan

Hello dear friend, The Korsk sank off Norway. Don't worry about your clean out - they usually give you 2 more litres when you get to the hospital! :-( love Kay.

Dear Kace, how very well you have described this tragedy is so few words. Shall we never forget. August 12th in 2000, I believe. It was reported that a young 27 year old officer had written a note to his family. Put in was far from concerned about the whole crew. A naval exercise gone horribly wrong. Sadly, the Korsk is not and will not be the only tragedy of military origins.Governments are are callous and ultimate power results in innocent sacrifices. Horrific.

Howdy stranger! Nice to hear from you - man's inhumanity to man and Putkin is still ruling the Russian roost. Love, Kay.

You used those 50 well, Kay, didn't waste one. That was a shocking day in Russian history, I hope the president rots in a submarine himself one day. I am sure everyone will cheer. Good luck in the contest, it is a brilliant entry. :) Sandra

Isn't it sad the way the life of others means so little to so many people? It's terrible. Your well written piece is a tribute to those poor souls who lost their lives at the call of so-called leaders. It is short and to the point, my friend. It was spell binding. I enjoyed it a lot.

Kay, this is a great contest entry. You've used the real life event to build horror in so few words. A true writing feat, my friend. Well done and most deserving of a contest win. Hugs, Bev

Hello Bev, Thanks so much for reading; devastated when it happened - just goes to show, he didn't care about the men. Blessings, Kay.

Yes, they were just 'necessary' casualties of war. How much goes on that we have no idea about?
You're very welcome, my friend.
Love, Bev

When lives are held cheap, all values are tumble and the inevitable decadence sets in. It's as simple as that. It has been called the banality of evil. And yet we all harbor a lust for killing but a leader should know better. Even if he devotes his efforts to the destructive mode. The real tragedy lies with those who die to keep alive tired old symbols and worn out platitudes. -Ekim777
