This is a really nice poem. It makes me think of my mother in law in her old age now all gnarled and knotted. Sometimes I feel that way too.

Hi again Debbie... Is this poem about an old tree or you? I can see both in it. The tree you chose is truly very old. But you are younger. But can still be in a worse situation. Please get back to me. chowchow

This is about both comparing a natural image with how I feel after one thing after the next has gone wrong the last 2 months. I am trying to dig my self out of depression, but in the fall when I get depressed it is hard Thank you for your kind words and support. hugs. Debbie

I can relate to that line especially. But bent and twisted, I'm still me inside, and you are still you. The outside shell of a person may not be perfect, but it's the inside that makes a person what she is. And you're a beautiful one, Debbie. :)

I like the concrete image you present in the fist part of the poem, observe that they are reaching for something, and then tying that back to the idea of holding on to hope.
I was wondering if that same message could be delivered without introducing I'll, which is in future tense. I was thinking something like this (with a few other suggestions):
gnarled branches
reach toward the sun
unable to grasp and hold
yet they never give up
holding on to hope
Cheers,
DW

Donald, a few month ago I would have whole-heartedly agreed with you, but the ribbons editor has encouraged me to make them more personalized. I wrote it first without it, but on rereading,, added it. I do thank you for reviewing and your suggestions. Have a blesses day~Debbie

Simple and inspiring thought conveyed so beautifully. Good alliteration in the first and the last line. I like the idea 'holding on to hope'. A good job done.

Interesting poem.
In reading it, it reminded me of the last few years with my mother. Arthritis twisted her fingers and toes not unlike what knots do to trees.
Thanks for sharing this. JW

This picture poem pair echo each other in a very beautiful way. Life does not give up easily until it's purpose is achieved. This is a keeper. So, thanks for sharing. Bob

Excellent! Both the poem and the picture. The will to live is indwelling in all of God's creations, whether rooted to the soil or rooted to a base of determination and boundless courage.
You are the latter, dear Debbie.
