Congratulations on your win. This is a powerful poem detailing the effects of war on the men and how it continues for a lifetime. Your lines read well. The short lines read at a quick pace and add emphasis to the overall message. What a sad experience. He had no one to turn too in his need after fighting for our freedom. That seems to be a common experience for so many who return changed in ways we will never know. Thanks for sharing.
Respectfully, Jan

Congrats on your winning entry. Best wishes for the future. "Shadows of men I killed," become silhouettes in the minds vision, they never leave, lingering long enough to aid discomfort. Human suffering has no cure, we cannot erase thoughts we can only overwhelm them with better ones. It seems you have. Misfire. Best regards.

You definitely got the human suffering aspect. This hurt to read, but the point of poetry sometimes is to make you feel things. If this is part of your own feelings, I am so sorry.

I can see why this free style poem won. It is excellent. You really captured the essence of a man in pain. You showed the pain of PTSD through the eyes of a soldier that came home. Well done. -January L.

A very moving poem, it must be awful to be a war veteran.
Your poem gave us an outline of what it feels like. God Bless you!
I liked the short sentence style it made it concise and to the point.
Good luck in the contest.

Horribly real beautiful poem. Good job of showing the loss, confusion, hopelessness that is a soldiers. I saw this a lot from men I knew who went to Viet Nam and returned home to blame. Your poem covers all wars, all soldiers. Your words and imagery are perfect.

My heart cries for all our vets. I've known a few from Viet Nam who'll never be the same. It takes a lot of emotion to write the words you've penned. God bless and good luck.

Wow, wonderful job in illustrating the immense hardships our military men and women face when they come home. They do so much for all of us and to be mistreated or misunderstood when they come back home is just ridiculous. Your poem is beautifully written, and shares a truth about our world that is difficult to take in. It was also very clever and original to use the word "misfire" like you have. We all need to do more to help these men and women who risk their lives to help keep us safe. Bravo in creating a poem with such depth and purpose!

Thank you for your read and your evaluation. I cannot agree more with you sentiment about our returning soldiers. Much more needs to be done for them in my opinion.

Wow. This is such a powerful and poignant poem... it really rips at the core of the heart.. I can feel your pain, vulnerability, denial, anger, and resentment because of all that you had to sacrifice for a war, that seems without end... I honor you. I honor and thank you for your service.. I support you in thought and in spirit.. and to let you know that I "hear you"... you are not alone and I welcome you home..
