Why Do I Feel This Guilt?

I loved the poem! My brother was in Vietnam. I remember when he came home and people would sometimes say how unnecessary the Vietnam war was and how we shouldn't have been there. Real nice to say to someone who had just come back from a war that he was told to give his all for! Possibly his life.

Thank you for your very thoughtful response. Do not worry about me, I am fine. And, I am thankful that God gave me the ability to write what others suffer much more than I, to tell of their feelings. I served and proud of it, but mine was nothing compared to so many. Do not despair, be of good cheer. When you pass a Vet, many of us old men wear caps of our service, just give a smile, a hand out to shake, and a ?thank you?. God Bless. Reese Turner

This is shows the survivor's guilt of a soldier that returned from war when his friends and fellow unit soldiers didn't. This is about Vietnam and the bad way those that returned were treated. It shows the soldier's loyalty and patriotism in that he would return to war again despite the treatment and the guilt.
Good luck in the contest.

This prompt gave me the opportunity to share my thoughts. I know that even we who were not sent into combat feel this way and I cannot imagine what the combat vets carry. But we all served with pride and love of country. Thanks for reading and caring to support us.

This is often the feeling of a soldier surviving the ordeal of war, especially when friends did not make it home, this is an example of the aftercare soldiers need to re-integrate themselves into society, a poignant write, love Dolly x

Survivors guilt has been an afliction as long as there has been; the close the relationship with the fallen comrad the deeper the remorse. Well writen and to the point.

Indeed, it is a common affliction. One would think after 50 years, it would subside, but it seems to increase. Nothing I can't handle, but it is like a shadow. Thanks for reading and reviewing.

Every time I go to the VA I see VET's walking in the shadows, It is in their demeanor, after 50 years they are still walking the walk and talking the talk.

Salute to your service there. God Bless.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
You did a great job, Mystery Author, with your contest entry. It flows well and is poignant. I can't say 'been there' 'done that', but I believe I understand the dilemma faced. Do know I care. Thanks for sharing and best wishes. Jan

Sometimes I feel the guilt also. I also got to return home. We have to look at it realistic, it could have been us not returning. God has his way
we were just not meant to die in foreign land. You did a very good job
on this. I would imagine there are many who wonder why they and not me.
