It was so refreshing to find a poem about the passing of the fly - something that has nothing to do with the virus or face masks! I personally hate zippers. I'd much rather replace a button than a zipper - thank you for a lovely villanelle with a practical message.

This is a humorous verse as you describe your reactions and feelings about your clothing options. Your execution of the villanelle form is excellent for and fits your little rant well.
I wasn't aware the button fly had passed. I guess because I still see them in the stores it didn't occur to me. That leads me to wonder if the Levi brand the only one still making them?

Hi Tony. I think jeans are producing a lot of problems for everyone, male and female alike. I enjoyed your lament about the missing fly. My complaint is that there are no more waist high jeans for women it seems. They are hip huggers (so uncomfortable), high risers, low risers whatever, but no natural waists. Argghhh! Marilyn

Thanks, Marilyn. I haven't worn jeans for fifty years. Loose-fitting trousers with decent side pockets for me! (...and fly buttons if I can get them!)

This a poem with 'teeth'. Zippers are very complicated to replace or fix, whereas a missing button, as you say, will get you by. I totally resonate with what you are saying. I feel your pain. LOL. Well done.

When you put it like that I can understand why buttons would be favoured, though if you have arthritic fingers, like mine, buttons could well be an ordeal LOL Nicely done with this lighthearted Villanelle Tony, and we can all do with some of that.
cheers,
valda

Thanks, Valda. Glad you enjoyed it. I can see why arthritis would make zippers an easier option. Tony

Hello Tony. This is great! It's wonderful for all of us to have a good laugh. This poem gave me one of those.
After reading this, I want to go out and buy all of my pants with a button fly. Unfortunately, those are few and far between.
Outstanding!

Lol, good call with buttons instead. I never thought. That way too if you loose your only button there's extras. I'll have to look for this style in stores as I never see them. I like your humour here and your style. Flows well and held my attention. A pleasurable piece. I also appeciate and enjoy the rhyme scheme and use of repetition. Very well done!

Your insights are keen.
Many tailors and clothiers embrace the zipper as a fashionable and utilitarian, They fail to understand the Engineering principle of redundancy.
1. Bad tooth zipper jammed.
2. Cloth in the zipper jammed.
3. Hair in the zipper jammed.
4. Moisture in the zipper jammed.
However, 5 bottons provide five chances to keep the "fly," "barn door " closed.
Who wants one-chance pants?
Similar to a first time paratrooper: "Make sure your equipment is in working condition. No do-overs."
