Super chapter, Beth! Baby possums all over the house all the time. I don't think I ever saw one. They look adorable! But it can't have been easy for you, those little creatures escaping all the time. And not easy to find, as I see. Except for your mother-in-law, finding one in her bed! That really must have been a hilarious sight!
Enjoyable reading!

Thank you so much for the review and for the comment. They aren't cute when they grow up. They are the only animal in the US that have pouches like kangroos. Apparently they didn't want to be domesticated. I 'm glad you found it enjoyable.

Life is moving along apace with plenty of action. Those possums certainly have made their presence felt in the family circle - effective writing style - direct and to the point

I'm with your husband on the possums. Where would they pee and poop? Poor mother-in-law. I can visualize her in nightgown and curlers. Great hyperbole about her garments. You make the church sound so inviting-- a place for you to make new friends and your children to have fun.

I understand why you laughed, I would have too, but may I add, You or I would have reacted the same if an animal crawled into our bed. Jim brought home three baby raccoons for our three children one day. They were really adorable and I wanted to pet them too, but I saw the sharp teeth and the claws and I knew it was a bad idea even though we had a rabbit cage to keep them in. They hissed when any of us came around so I did what any mother would do. The first time I was alone at home with them, they escaped! LOL Good story, Beth. Nancy:)

Thank you Nancy. The wild pet don't work out to well. Having those around for a while may be realize dogs and cats make better pets.

Haha a funny chapter with the Opossums. Good reading as usual. Looking forward to more. I wondered the Opossums could not have been housed on your land? The neighbour could look after them? No spags.

Thank so much for the review and comments. They would do just fine on the property we have now when they got a little older, but we wee in an apartment then. I'm not fond of older opossums. The babies are cute.

I am howling hysterically--the best belly laugh in forever!--priceless possum antics--I wonder whatever happened to the creatures--hope you'll tell us next time--if not, please fill me in! Cheers LIZ. (Recently a "baby" possum (only two feet long, said my friend trying to reassure me) got into my house--thank God he was there--I refused to look at the thing--I gave Chuck oven mitts and a towel and he managed to grab it and release it outside. I wrote a flash on it--you probably read it.)

I'm glad I made you laugh. You always do that for me. I don't like the older ones. I've got tales about them too but much later. I'd like to say we let them go when they were older but, the things they ate weren't good for them. they didn't survive too many months.

This was a very enjoyable post. Those possums really stirred the family up.

Noticed one typo at the very end:
It is a wonder she ever came to vist (visit) us again..

Dear Beth, This chapter of your story , reveals more
about the likes and dislikes ( and dispositions) of both you and your husband more than any other that I recall.
Usually you write only of the places you worked. So if you wish to leave a legacy for your children , write more chapters like this one.

Thank you so much for the review and comments and suggestions. I think I said a lot more about our individual differences many chapters ago. I haven't touched on that a lot lately. I'll try to do more with that.

It sounds like the baby possums were quite an undertaking. I imagine it was funny to see you're mother-in-law that way, lol. It was nice you were able to go back home every once in a while. Your chapter is well-written, very interesting, funny. I chuckled all the way through it.

The possums certainly inserted some active excitement into your new environment and bless you, you didn't give up on them. You continue with this well-written story very nicely. I am enjoying your forays and wonder how much you must have missed your property?
I would think a possum in your bed would be so frightening!

Thank you so much for the review and comments. My mother-in-law certainly found the possum in her bed to be frightening. My husband missed the property more than I did but we went back often and sometimes spent vacations there. My husband worked at finishing the house and eventually it did get finished.
