What a georgous photograph of the tree; I loved your poem because it enlightened me to the real meaning of the dogwood tree. I think this is one of the best poems that I have read of yours; it is very right for the Easter season and you certainly have poured your heart and love into the words. I thank you for sharing this beautiful piece of poetry.

Absolutely lovely!!!
Beautifully crafted! Loved the opening:My father planted dogwood trees
that blossomed in the spring,
and every year he'd share with me
this legend of our King.
"My father" sets it up perfectly...God the father...
A beautifully structured verse that flows to a symmetrical ending.
The final lines are a perfect ending:compassion triumphs over hate,
and hope outlives dismay.
wonderful!

I have heard of this legend also. It is one we used to tell at this time when the trees bloomed. Beautiful poem to tell it. You did great. I wrote one about the Sail fish bone. Have you heard that one. If not let me know and I will re-activate it for you. Thanks, Jeanette

Awesome. I am not an orthodox christian, but I felt moved by this beautiful expression of love and faith. This is one of the best of a magnificent portfolio and the technique is, of course, superb.

What a prolific writer you are dear Brooke. I love Dogwood trees and your poem is absolutely beautiful.
This is my favorite stanza ...
Two thousand years and more ago
they built a killing cross
to crucify a gentle man --
the world still feels His loss.
Very true, we will always feel His loss.

Superb adewpearl, absolutely wonderful. I knew of the legend but I like how you portrayed it in such an easy to read, clear manner. Beautiful imagery, excellent choice of words. I grew up in the south, so dogwoods are very special to me. Great job.

This is something that unites yankees and southerners then as dogwoods are all over my Pennsylvania suburbs and we all love them here too! Thanks ever so much for your generosity and gracious comments. :-)

What a wonderful story. As you know, I also love Dogwoods - I'm not sure that they grow in the middle east, but I do know that they are our Provincial Flower. Their woody blossoms and strength have always reminded me of courage and endurance. I can see how this treasured legend came to be. You have put it into poetry excellently well. This would be a beautiful Easter remembrance for a card or small booklet. Rose.

I would not be surprised to learn they don't grow there - legends don't pay lots of attention to historical or scientific accuracy :-D Thanks so much, Brooke

This is a beautiful poem with a nice rhyming flow.
I liked the legend of the dogwood and the message you brought out from it-
"compassion triumphs over hate,
and hope outlives dismay."
