'twas Halloween eve
dead leaves jumped back onto trees
so raw was their fright
Nice turn of the unexpected! Since leaves already tremble at the slightest breeze...a gust of fright, on Halloween, just might send them scrambling back home for protection! :-)

This was a fantastic piece, I really enjoyed the analogy of the leaves jumping back onto the trees, I thought that was very clever and the line that made the piece. Excellent work overall here, thanks for sharing and good luck in the contest.

That must have been one very scary and frightful night when
"dead leaves jumped back onto trees,so raw was their fright" I don't think it would be possible to get any more scarier in a 5-7-5 poem. Great work.

Wow, whatever was walking by must have been really scary to make dead leaves raced back to their branches. Good image overall.

Excellent metaphor as to reality.
We all go forward in life with certain attitudes and stereotypes. We make decisions and judgments based upon little research, just subjective conclusions.
Then one day we receive information that makes us jump back away from the opinion we had.
We realize how wrong we were, so sad.
We hope that another's future or reputation was not harmed by what we said, so sad.
It is always necessary to do your due diligence before speaking out. The world newspapers, television, and radio have many uninformed persons who dispense information as true, they do not care about you.
Usually it is to get you to try a product, so sad.

This is a good 5/7/5 combining nature and Halloween. It's a good entry for the competition using personification of the leaves and a nice picture. Good luck in the contest. Regards Dorothy

Hi Mystery Poet,
What a great poem for Halloween! The leaves were so scared that they jumped right back on the tree. I like your word choice with "raw",
"so raw was their fright" ...to me, that seems like they were suddenly startled. They had no time to think about it. It was a quick reaction. Did they see Dracula scuffing leaves as he waited outside someone's door? Or worse? A coven of witches dancing around a boiling cauldron in the middle of the woods? My line of reasoning would be that if their fright was "cooked", then they had time to think about what they were seeing or what they heard. They could reason, and possibly escape to safety.
I can take this a bit further too.
"dead leaves jumped back onto trees"... here we see that the leaves are dead. And yet, they came back to life! Perhaps they are Zombie leaves? Could something scare a zombie leaf that badly? It must have been terribly scary then.
But it was Halloween eve, a night when spirits move; when evil is attracted from darkness, and kids think they are safe in a costume.
Excellent entry for the 5-7-5 contest! Good Luck!
cheers

Kimbob: I wrote the poem but I leaf it up to you and your imagination to answer all those questions you posed. I think that the leaves were old and were just simply scared of everything around them so leapt back to the trees where they felt safe. In 17 syllables, you can only explain a little bit. Thanks for reading and having fun with this piece.
