From a region too rural for hot dog stands, and a town too small for more than one
restaurant, a sharecropper's only son, your memories are an alien world I always wanted to visit. Excellent images...

Ah, I am the son of a sharecropper's daughter who came out to California during World War II. Hollywood is an alien world to many on this planet, but it is a place many aspire to visit. For me, I want to visit Texas to look up my roots. Thanks for your review.

Its a good, rambling poem. One that takes you on a journey back through your memories. You took me along for the trip too and I enjoyed reading it. There is nothing that I would change.

I really like your flow in this. It was an interesting take on an ode. A fun one with descriptive and Fun words. The entire poem like I said flows amazingly, really, but the rhymes are perfectly placed.

which fed us meringue pies
and chiffon cakes
baked by our mother
who called herself "Yeller Gal."

Ha. Love it. Good luck!

Thank you, GregoryCody, for your kind review and contest well wishes. This was originally a spoken word poem. I adapted it to the screen/page so that the words would flow in the way I performed them. I am glad you noticed.

This author serves up a very tasty dish of free-verse in this "nostalgic nosh" of a poem. The 1950s musical references add spice and savor to the delicious foods that are described. Finally, this poet can make ice-cubes melt like no other. Well-done, like the fries and hot dogs.

This is a wonderful poem paying homage to a small business that has become a staple that adds to the mystique of LA. As far competing with Pinks or any other establishment, just being true to who you are and intended to be will keep your loyal customers coming back and may very well win many more in future.

I liked this Ode Poem, especially the reference of remembering old times, even those at hot dog stands. I thought that you wrote the piece well and I couldn't find any faults. Good luck in the contest...Jacob

You've beautifully captured what a hotdog can mean to someone. Sounds silly, but memories are like that. Very spontaneous, and like how you distanced this line: "one at a time" Superb. Les

Yes, Les, memories are like this--spontaneous. I am glad you enjoyed my "one at a time" line. I prolonged the pauses when I perform it. Thanks again.
