It does seem, life is a series of falling and rising. Learning true friends are the ones who reach out to help you, and the rest you just need to leave behind. But the compassion part's harder. . .learning you get what you give, and how you, too, must shoulder the burden of caring. At least here, during our time on the earth.

deepwater, this is a solid philosophical write with wise instructions. I thought this line was strong, "the in-between is the dying art of compassion with flexibility and accountability to others that cross your path between the parts of life we know as birth and death." Well constructed in thought process and conclusion. :0 GracieAnn

A very moving piece with insight on this mortal coil. You did a great job of putting yourself into the work. I look forward to reading more.

So true, it is a dying art, the virtue of compassion is too often alien to those who makes us look stupid when we are riding on a tough weather. Fair weather friends are far too many and they inhabit even the most unlikely work places. These are friends who will be with you when everything is fine and dandy but will be the first to leave when things get tough. God bless.

The journey of life is certainly a test of our ability to cope with ever changing circumstances. A little help from our friends does indeed help when we're down. Nicely done.

Hi Deepwater, you've written a very profound
work that certainly makes you think. Very true
there are people that cast you aside during
bad times. Only true friends are with you at
all times.

The art of living and the art of dying if ever we consider this as an art, is something we do treasure in our existence. We have to make use of the best of our lives and give in return the best we can. It is a give and take idea. And there are, however, people who take life one way around. Just taking and without giving. But what I understand is that the essay discussed is something that is notable, a beauty that I think, the writer discussed well. We try to help where others fall.... And in return they also help when we are on the same situation. I hope that my interpretation is correct. Thank you.

Hello deepwater, A poem of truths, especially:

There comes a time when you just have to walk away from the hurt and drama

(It's sad but true)

And:
Falling is part of life

(It's not how we fall, but how we get back up on our feet)

A heartfelt poem. Keep the blue waters flowing. LateBloomer

Tis true, life is a journey with many lessons.Trust and compassion are among them. I have known people who developed more compassion as they aged and others who grew more bitter.
