Thanks for your notes as I was trying to understand "dripping." I guess in American English we call it "gravy." And I see the alliteration in "born on bread" but I would more likely say "raised on bread." Just letting you know what an American hears. You can keep it just as you have it as you kept all the rhyming rules and syllable count. Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you very much, I changed to raised as I see what born on might refer too-bit like born on mars, us Aussies are a bit different at times, as always very much appreciated****kahpot

I love this. While I have had bread and drippings it sounds like I might have missed the authenticity of the meal; having never had it as an actual meal, because that's all there was to eat.

Thank you for your wonderful comments, yes I can remember we had this for lunch as Mother tried to cook a hot meal for dinner most nights, school was very close so at lunch time home we came, as always very much appreciated****kahpot

Hello Kahpot,
I've never heard of bread and dripping before, but perhaps it's because of a different culture. Every parent I'm sure strives to provide for their family the best they can. Knowing that you are loved can overcome some of the meager meals. In many ways you were blessed beyond measure.
Have a blessed evening.

This is tender and shows the love that permeated the family when mother cooked and sewed for the children. Bread and dripping although I had not heard that phrase before I understood what it meant. The two-line poem speaks well of love within a family that has a meager existence but real love.
The artwork shows the round bread with gravy dripping from it and surrounding it.
This picture is suited well for this piece.
You are one of the fortunate ones whose love shines brightly throughout the home.
I am happy for you.
Have a lovely evening,
Jesse

Your essence poem is excellent in every respect--accurately written by the prompt standards and descriptive of a life lived frugally, resourcefully, making use of all available products.

hmm... i really like the way you incorporated the old-world, archaic (no offense) version of DRIPPING into this unique 2 line poem. Very good entry into the contest. best of luck to you, my friend :)
