We should always treat other's how we would like to be treated by them. It's sad that there aren't many people in the world who live by that. An excellent, well written piece Debi.

Dear Jacob, I appreciate your very special words for the golden rules and my poem.
I know we are all human and fall short, but kindness and caring go a long way. Thanks for always being that kind of person to me.
Thanks again, Debi

Yes, if only...It is not that difficult to treat one another with loving kindness. But it does require unselfishness and compassion. Putting someone else's welfare before ours is rare these days. We need to be better than that.

Debi, I think we sometimes need a reminder that the Golden Rule is not; those with the gold make the rules. Your poem is well-written, with gentle reminders in each verse of the true meaning. Terry.

Interesting that both you and Roy should have chosen the same theme for your latest poems. There's no doubt that your emphatic repetition in the final line of each staza is justified. When all the tarnish of years of schism is rubbed away, this Golden Rule shines clearly.

Hi Tony, I don't know about Roy's post, but I do know that mine was written out of hurt and anger over losing a friend to suicide when she couldn't handle to abuse any longer. I hope it wasn't taken as being judgmental at others, as I myself, or we all fall short of the golden rule. We are human. But we should at least all try to never hurt someone else. Perhaps I should have written that in my notes? But thought it was clear from my poem. I hope you weren't offended by it. That was never my intention. I am just curious so I know how to change it. I apologize if it sounded that way. I just hate to see innocent people hurt by unfairness too. Thanks Tony, and I appreciate your kindness and honesty. Love, Debi

Hi, Debi. I didn't express myself very well if I came across as being offended! Not in the least. I was just affirming my belief in that core Christian value, of treating everyone as you would like to be treated. What a wonderful world that would be!

Thank you Tony. I truly appreciate your kind and thoughtful response. You eased my mind greatly!

What a wise lesson you preach. And one we should all definitely practice. Criticism can wreak a horrible cost, and it seldom leaves the deliverer with any sense of accomplishment whereas silence or a kind word never offends. Beautifully writtem, Debi.

a good, moral lesson, Miss Deb. A worthy poem- a little poke in the ribs for everybody.
You really received accolades on your sweet poem for me. Well deserved, too.
Now, where do I find your posts you wanted me to take a look at? I don't know all the ins and outs of this site as you do. In your portfolio?

This is lovely, Debi. It is a great reminder of those important words from Scripture, to treat others with kindness and respect as we would like to be treated. I like your repetition of the Golden Rule in each stanza, and the presentation is great. Blessings. Carol

Reading through your Golden Rule poem posting it would seem paragraph 5 would or could be in violation of these Golden Rules. Please don't get offended I am in agreement with all but even writing and many preachers, ministers and laymen or women not to mention politicians and people in power seem to overlook this point. My favorite saying goes- when you point a finger at someone there are three pointed back at you. Of course I violate this also as the World we live in is making this statement do much easier to overlook. Thanks for Sharing this important message

LOL, QC, I didn't say I was an expert at it myself. Hahaha! However, I am trying to get to that forgiveness stage.
Seriously, as humans it is impossible for us to follow all the time, no matter our best attempts, but I think I will go and change the last line of that one stanza because it isn't right for me to say he knew nothing about the golden rule, but with my friend, he didn't practice it.
Thanks for your very kind comments about this poem and I appreciate your feedback too. I knew better than to pass judgement in a poem called the Golden Rule. (Big smile) Thanks again, my friend. Love, Debi

This is an amusing poem in some ways. It is true that the Golden Rule is one we should always follow. It sounds like someone you cared about died because of an abusive husband. Abusive husbands are such wretched humans.
