Grandparent memories can often be a powerful force shaping the young ones view of the world. I know for example my son's own memories have shaped his future, and he's become an avid hunter who recalls my father walking him through the woods and having a love for what God created. Appreciate the simple, sweet, and homespun writing like this.

This is another delightful and entertaining story about your childhood. I could relate to having to perform for guests at your house. I took piano lessons, and everyone who came to our house had to sit and listen to me play at least one song. If they tried to talk while I was playing, Mom put a finger to her mouth to remind them to be quiet and listen. I hated it.
I love that at age four, you knew to pray and ask for God's help for painting. I love that your mom immediately gave you paper. I look forward to additional stories.

Thank you for rthe review. I took piano lessons too but I only performed them at recitals which I hated. I don't think I had any natural musical talent.

Another delightful chapter about an adorable child constantly giving adults the run-around! You introduce so much humour and colour into these stories and the characters always emerge with ease. Love your impersonation at grandma's and your praying to God to help you paint a picture. Small edits: hanging off (no need for 'of') tree limbs; a(n) unpredictable mule.
Thanks for sharing, Beth. Debbie

I thought I was out of the sixth star but had one left. This was, like all your chapters, so enjoyable. I loved reciting in class but recall having a rough time as a child just learning the alphabet in order. Now I strain those letters daily. I very much miss the world of my parents and my large number of aunts and uncles and cousins. Most are gone now.

I'm sorry you missed enjoying your grandparents. My grandparent's house smelled of snuff and a wood buring in a fireplace. Also of rubbing alcahol

So very much enjoyed listening to your delightful story about your career decisions at the age of four. You talk about your dad wanting you to make the sounds of many animals that you knew I had a youngest daughter who could make a monkey sound and it you would swear there was a monkey in our home. It was a delightful thing to hear from her. Have a good day and I wish you the very best with all of your writing. Patricia .

What a pleasant walk down memory lane! I agree that there is nothing quite as satisfying as spending time with grandparents. My maternal grandmother was as patient as any human I've ever met. I wonder how she put up with most of my shenanigans! I never thought of it until I read this -- but my parents also taught me letters, colors, and memorization pieces but didn't teach me to read. I wonder if that was a prevailing thought back then. Don't bore the soon-to-be kindergartener!

Thank you Karenina, I have fun going down memory lane. I think but heard that ahout kids being bored if they already knew how to read. I probably would have been but I learned to read fast in school. Math was more confusing for me.
