I think the only real phobia(s) I have is the fear of rejection, or alternatively the fear of failure, (which is related) letting people down, my kids have a great balance, and so god theirs, that's my job Jim, God be praised, well done, blessings Roy

This is so very true. Sometimes people, especially older people who have no family seem to be rejected by those in the world. Especially an older woman who does not have a spouse is forgotten often or an older gentleman who does longer has a spouse is often forgotten. This is a sad state of affairs, especially if it comes from those in the church who do not acknowledge those people who need them the most. Patricia.

I think many feel this way. It helps to have strong relationships but if one never does, then the fear of rejection continues. And crowds of faces leave only room for superficial relationships. That's why it's good to write and read each other's writings and interact on a deeper level. Best wishes in the contest!

"I'm in the background
You Don't Know Me" Uh, duh, yes I do. You're...You're, um, Jeff?
"sea of faces" Good metaphoric imagery.
"When other's eyes peer at me" Did you mean others'--plural?
Sooo...the gist of this is that you long for rejection...???
All jokes aside, this was a well-crafted free verse on one's fear of social rejection. Very well done. Good luck in the contest.

Thanks for sharing your nice poem that describes so many of us, and for offering up Ray Charles's "You don't know me," that ties it all to our beating hearts. Thanks for sharing.

After reading this contest entry, I began to wonder how many people are afraid of reaching out because they fear rejection. I am betting more than we can imagine. Thank you for sharing and I enjoyed reading. Good luck with the contest.

This free verse, You Don't Know Me, covers the biggest block between being ourselves or remaining a visual could-be who never disappoints or suffers.

I lot of people who for some reason have a low self image or a shyness about them fear rejection. Poeple with a lot of self confidence wouldn't have this problem. It is something one would have to work hard at overcoming. This is a excellent free verse poem expressing this feeling well.

Oh but love is worth the risk. I took the risk and so did my husband. We're so very grateful and have the most wonderful love and marriage we know. Beautiful poem of the struggle and of the risk. Sending you my best today as always and best wishes for the free verse contest.
