Where can I learn more about Corey Booker? I love his quote. It suggests a man of integrity, honour and decency. A really solid write that feeds my hunger for more. I must confess I've never before heard of him. Then again, he's probably not heard of me.

He's an American politician. I don't usually quote politicians because I find them, by nature, liars and panderers. But this one seemed excellent. I don't know if he practices this, but in theory it is excellent, which is why I chose it.

This is an excellent 5-7-5 poem with a wonderful presentation and great message. Talk is cheap and easy, the proof of faith and charity is in the doing. You must be an example of what you believe--practice what you preach. Nicely done!

I guess you have no understanding of the reason that people turn to God, because they don't seek to be perfect, trouble is man can never be perfect, but that they realise they are not. But if we have a log in our own eyes, how can we possibly see the speck in someone else's? And at the end of time, we won't be able to judge others, we will have to make account of our own actions, there are no degrees of wrong, only right or wrong. Blessings Roy

I'm not sure what you're saying here, Roy. Coy Booker's words and my 5-7-5 are about not just exclaiming you are a good person, but rather SHOWING you are. Ditto for being a good writer: you SHOW, not TELL your readers what's going on.

Well, now, Roy. Lying, cheating, stealing. Those are things that aren't good, right? Being kind, being honesty, following through with promises. Those are good things, right? Is "noticing" the same as judging? Is drawing conclusions from people's behavior judging?

How can an imperfect vessel judge another imperfect vessel? How can a sinner judge another sinner? Unless you have never sinned...have you, never told a lie, Become perfect then you will be fit to judge. Do you like being accused? I would rather coffees my own imperfection, than yours. Remember you?re the accuser by your post.

Roy, I have to say that I am so baffled by your ire here and your logic, too. All I this post is conveying is that you should SHOW exemplary behavior, not just talk about it. My favorite quote on the religious side of the topic is an Episcopalian joke.
"Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in a garage makes you a car."
And my favourite Christian is my cousin who isn't a churchgoer but who is the most caring person I know, a modern day Good Samaritan. Okay I'll show by giving you an example. There is much poverty in our country of birth. Out driving with my cousin one day he saw a woman dragging herself across a bridge towards her home. He parked got out of the car and helped her. No one else paid attention.
And, I promise to stop after this, my favourite Episcopal priest was on a plane in mufti when the woman sitting next to him asked if he was saved. He told her he hoped so.
Did I say I was going to stop? I mis-spoke.
The Good Book says "Judge not" so, although I constantly fall off the wagon of good intentions, that's what I try to do.

You're welcome, Rachelle. Guyana has few sidewalks and many speeding cars, so when we want to wish someone well, we say "walk in the corner". It's a Creolese expression but I think you get my meaning.

That is fabulous! What a cool saying.
Here's a Southern saying I love (that has nothing to do with what we were talking about, it's just a phrase that I delight in) When someone is very upset and throwing kind of a tantrum, people describe it as "She's having a come-apart." Isn't that perfect?? I absolutely love it! But "walk in the corner" is terrific, too. Thank you for teaching me this today. xo

I agree. Religion is a very person experience, so flaunting it - saying things like "I'm a CHRISTIAN!!" like that is some special badge that exempts a person from being above reproach, regardless of their actions - is insulting and absurd. Such hubris...which even I, as a Jew, knows that is the antithesis of what Jesus preached. He was humble and always flew under the radar and did anything He could to HELP people. Flaunting was never His style.
