It's a fun ride, and I am very much enjoying it. Your different personalities are so well interwoven into your chapters. Do you check each other's work before posting? It's interesting, informative and imaginative. Well done.

We would see what the other has planned, but we each venture down our own path. Keeps it spontaneous. Thanks so much. Gretchen

I am still enjoying his lovely story. So Helen married into the Amish lifestyle. Seems like it could be true for some. So glad I had more to read as one of my regulars has slacked off a bit. No spags.

This is different, sort of a imaginary biography, I can imagine.the detail by what you write, the Amish are a fascinating people, I met them in Lancaster in their horse and buggy, you're a little different in this story Gretchen, well done, blessings Roy

I really like this story. You find you are having more fun and more relaxation than you could ever have at home with all the modern conveniences. Rachel seems to be getting a good share of sleep. You are having an interesting adventure.

Many a reader will be able to identify with this: "The answer is twofold: I'm old, and basketball is exciting, while sitting here in silence is like watching paint dry." this is a great descriptive evidence of alertness: "Her cheeks grow pink and I realize, she has probably never uttered this to anyone else." the last paragraph has a fun tongue and cheek humor to it. This has a good twist in the perspective. Well done.

Where's my damn wind, lol. Amish life sounds nice, but I need A/C and internet and, of course, electricity, lol. Oh, and beer. This is a great addition to the story.
God bless,
Steve

I doubt I'd make it a week. I have a sarcastic streak a mile wide. I'd be dropped off by the side of the road in real life. Lol. Thank you for this. Gretchen

You post is endearing and realistic, even if this road trip never happened, you managed to make it sound real with your apt descriptions and your intuitive characters, much enjoyed Gretchen, your work is always a pleasure to read, love Dolly x

This is a very nicely written, nice chapter. You personalized Helene quite well.
I realize that the Amish speak differently (of course), and I accept completely that nearly all rules get tossed in dialogue. But clothes that I discard never again get washed. But Helene might very well have said it like that.
Best wishes.

I LOVVVVVVVVE this chapter!! I have loved them all so far, but this one is my favorite of yours yet. I like that you and Helene are becoming arm's length friends (you did the Amish polite-but-we're-not-friends vibe PERFECTLY) [they're very "private" people] and we got to see a softer, let-down-your-guard side to YOU, too, which was beautiful. Because, truly, Gretchen, you are so beautiful inside. It shows through with every single thing you do. (Btw - I had a good lol with the "what happened to it - did the goats eat it?" That was priceless!!)

GREAT job, oh, co-conspirator of mine!! xoxox

Thanks, Rachelle. I figured I needed to tone down my normal personality when talking to Helene. And, I'm usually pretty subdued when I first meet someone. Thank you for all the nice things you said. This project has been so much fun. Gretchen

Hasn't it, though!! And it's pretty amazing since we took it on on quite the whim! I'll be forever grateful to your spontaneity! xoxo

Once again this is a very good addition to the story. I am enjoying reading. I can't wait to read more. It is very tranquil in Amish country.

pausing before she continues. "That was my excuse. (continues,)

Thank you, Barbara. I'm quickly learning about the Amish but it's such a different world from ours. Thanks for the edits. Gretchen

My mom lives in an Amish community. She is not Amish, but they've bought land around her farm. They are very interesting, and I enjoy visiting with her neighbors.
