This is a great entry for the Betrayal Poetry competition. Despite the uneven meter of the lines, there is an easy flow to the words that works to make it less noticeable. Descriptive and rich language, great artwork, very good message. I enjoyed it. Well done!

You expressed the human condition quite well. I reread your words to get a better understanding, which is usually signs of a great poem. Your poem is a wonderful read. Once bit, twice shy, thankfully listening to others makes me extra cautious.

This is a great poem about portrayal and beyond. I read some of the stanzas several time searching for greater meaning and finding it! Good poetry need not be 100% clear for the reader, leaving room for interpretation. This poem achieves this in my opinion. In general, I find this poem reflects on the human condition as much as it may be calling out a specific person. Well done.

Your message is crafted very well. Yes, we are a masochistic species, expecting to be free from the pain without doing the work necessary to remove what's causing it. It's interesting that this is a chapter of a book. I'd like to read more

Thank you so much for the kind words! I created the book when I decided to do a poetry series on different idioms! I hope someday (once I have enough poems written) I can turn it into a real book :)

Once bitten, twice shy. Not only in love but in almost any endeavor. Nobody likes to lose, but getting back up and trying again does become harder when your confidence is gone. You give definitions of words. I have never understood that on this site. We deal in words. I have no problem looking up a word I'm not familiar with. It's polite and customary. I like this poem.

What an interesting read, you have given some meanings to words but I found myself having to search the meaning of another in your poem!

This poem screams very deep betrayal, even the smell of a rose is now deceiving, very powerfulimagery..i really liked in particular the last line...

This is a well rhymed poem with vivid artwork. It is sad the at times this is a true story. Sometimes people need help to get hope that they can break the chains. Betrayal is a horrible emotion.
