I love hearing your story of early life and all those things you remember. Learning to navigate the world through your experiences.

I think it is wonderful that you had a dedicated bus to take the kids to school, we have no such thing in Britain, but it is a smaller place and the schools are closer.

Alcohol was illegal? Was this for everyone, or just under aged people?

Another fine chapter Beth, much enjoyed, love Dolly x

I think all public schools in the US have school buses untess. Our school had 12 busses that serviced different routes. Of course if you lived a block or two from the school you didn't ride the bus. Yes hard Alcohol was illegal. I think you could be beer but You could get other liquor from bootleggers, if your knew the right people. It was a state law so in some states in might have been legal. At one time in was illegal all over the US>

Again. you never disappoint, This was a long chapter, I can imagine you can break it into and elaborate, luckily you were a decent girl with a brain, because there was plenty of trouble you could have gotten into.

No doubt you are right about needing to be a tad older. We had those days in Arkansas as well. Skating was the thing of the hour. Luckily, I could do a few tricks skating to impress the girls but that soon fizzled out. Some of the girls put me to shame. LOL. Good one, BETH

Like all rules (man-made), they're made to be broke. I see no benefit in sticking to single-event stories. This was well-done. And even if they stopped to rob a bank on the way home, adding a third 'thing' would not end the world.
Best wishes.

can dive the two (drive)

I think the way you are writing the stories is just fine and of course I enjoy reading how different your life was though we happen to be a lot alike I think. Another great chapter.

Thank you, Carol. I think you and I are alike in many ways but I'm a bit older than you. I still have admitted to myself I'm not longer young. My Carol says according to my horoscope I'll always be younger than she is. She thinks she is more mature. lol

Ohhh skating rinks, afternoon movies, chocolate malts at the local drug store! It all comes flashing back. Especially those chocolate malts. I have never had one to this day that tasted as good as they tasted at the corner drug store. I loved sitting on the stool at the counter. thanks for taking me back.

I think you certainly succeed in conveying a feel for growing up in the fifties in Mississippi, Beth! I like the expression 'hay seed.' An entertaining chapter, enhanced by your developing personality about which I always enjoy reading. But edits, Beth... Take care Debbie
I liked listening (to) Uncle Willie
Ju(k)e box
Girls A(u)xillary
(i)ce cream parlour
they can d(r)ive the two of you there

Thank you, Debbie, I shouldn't be writing today. My eyes are practically glued shot from eye strain and a sinus infection. I needed to get my daughter to go over before I posted but she was busy today.
