Once again, I really enjoyed reading this memoir. I was born in 1954, so I am now alive. LOL Thank you for sharing this post with us. You're doing a great job writing these.

Thank you, Barbara. I'm glad you liked this. You, Maralyn, and Karen all reviewed this at the same time, and all told me were born around that time. I'm 17 years older.

I sure get a kick out of hearing how you handled most situations. An inquisitive sort, as I always was too. But we differed in that you kept your curiosity in check very well. I became wilder than a choked duck, afraid I might miss something. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

I'll bet I would have had a crush on you back then. I liked the wild guys, but I didn't think I wanted to risk trying to tame one. lol
reply by Ric Myworld on 09-Dec-2024
I'm finally tamed myself. But I was 47 when I finally decided it was time to grow up. LOL.

I was starting to understand the world around me in those years. There was something special that I feel future generations lacked. The radio, TV, and movies all dispensed a feeling not known since. Thank you for this installment.

It was a different world back then but we had a lot of fun.

Yeah, Evan should have given you a heads up on meeting his folks. But he probably thought you'd be too anxious if you knew ahead of time. I've never been to New Orleans but my daughter has. She said it's definitely a party town. Lol. Those poor chaperones. Great installment. Gretchen

Thank you, Gretchen. I probably would have gotten nervous if I'd known I would be meeting his family. He had two sisters and a brother to meet soon after that.

Glad you guys had good field trip despite not much money. Yea, we were that way as well. Yea, Bill Haley and his band was something else. Had us doing the twist. Evan was getting ready to pop the question. The parent thing was the bait. LOL.

Thank you, Chuck. You were lucky if you Bill Haley. The twist looked fun. I never tried it in pubic or with a partner. Thank for the six stars.

I grew confused with the following... "Why are we stopping here?" I asked.
"My folks live here. I wanted you to see my horse. Let's check and see if the folks are home."
Was he showing a horse or a house? I did not know, but concluded later he did indeed have a horse.

He told me he wanted to show me his horse, but what he actually wanted to do was introduce me to his family. It was years later after we were married before he told me the house was his which he bought while he was in service. I guess it was confusing that I mentioned both in this post.

Not really, but that line led me to muse confused.

You write very well, and in a lovely conversational style, sharing your thoughts and observations about your life in your Senior year of school. I am enjoying the read.

Your senior leaving year was a lot more exciting than ours. We didn't even have a prom, in fact that only started in recent years, copying the US. (We do that a lot!!)
I really enjoyed the trip to New Orleans, it was a place I've always wanted to visit ever since reading Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer. That will never happen, so it was nice to get a glimpse in your story. I enjoyd this story, my friend. Well done!! :)) Sandra xx (I think there is a little nit below) xx

first words out of his mother's mouth were, "We were wondering what time you would be getting here." (She?) He had told them,

Thank you, Sandra. I think we copy you as well. After being on FanStory, I find myself using expressions that I've only heard English writers use. Thank for a great review. I changed that sentence to make it clearer. "He had told his parents they would be meeting me, but he hadn't told me."
reply by Sandra Stoner-Mitchell on 09-Dec-2024
That makes so much more sense now. Perhaps it was my fuddled brain, lol.
There are quite a few English writers on here now, isn't there? It's good to share each others ways and expressions, it opens up a bigger world of choice all round. xxx

What a memory you have, I do remember the film and music happenings, but I was younger than you at the time, I was still in primary school in 1955, but thanks for the reminder, 25 was quite old compared to a 17 year old, I wonder if that was why he didn't share with you at the time, beautifully written, I do enjoy your biographies, blessings Roy

Thank you, Roy. I think it was just a character trait. Maybe. He tended to keep things to himself and probably postponed some arguments that way. It was one things I had to get him to stop doing to me.

One can definitely tell that you grew up in the South--a southern belle honored by garden parties, a time when girls were to be girls. You've told the story well, as always. Memories are special.

You don't sleep either, do you Carol. I didn't think anyone would be reviewing at this hour. Thank for the review. Yes, I definitely a southerner but not a tea party girl.
