Who am I to judge the way others live?
Or for them to judge me?
I prefer to remain in my life of
Writing, serenity and quietude
Makes a lot of sense to me Debbie. It awfully hard to settle down and write with terrible noise going on around you.

Amen to that, Debbie! I love the inclusion of Desiderata in the notes, too. Your poem shows that you truly believe in living peacefully and minding your own business. Wish more folks did!
Some seem to thrive on gossip
From which I try to avoid << Error in wording here.
Which I try to avoid
---OR---
From which I try to escape

At times, more times than I want to admit, I have to "pretend." I've given up I have to feel loving and interested, but I can live with my value that acting "as if" is a kind substitute.
Hope resolution arrives soon for you.

Yes sometimes it is a struggle, but it's only because there is something within us that is taking things personally, and that is our own ego. Whatever you can accept completely will immediately take you into peace! Peace and blessings to you:)

Much gratitude to you and Debbie for sharing this self-realization poem with your fans, myself and other readers/writers. Seems you have learned a lot about yourself and I learned a lot about you to the words that you displayed in this writing. When I meditate the hardest thing I live for the next day is not to judge every minute of the day things or people. People have been dehumanized by judging others. I really like your short piece very much because of that learning experience that I have enjoyed to read from your words. You have a good one Debbie and God bless.

I like to think I am always thoughtful and kind, but this one person is really getting to me. I guess no one does it perfectly and I do try to be polite when I see her. My thoughts however are not always kind regarding her. Then I feel guilty. Thank you so very much. my friend~Debbie

You are so welcome Debbie and that seems to be a quandary between you and her. My best wishes in your aspiration to developing a solution.

I think many quiet souls who don't like the loud and self-centered, the gossips and rude will agree with you when you say: 'I prefer to remain in my life of
Writing, serenity and quietude'.
Lovely free verse, Debbie.

Thank you, Ellen. Sorry I haven't gotten to your work yet. Our internet was out off and on for a few days and then totally gone for 3 days. I am considering a new ISP as this one has had so many problems lately~Debbie

This is a very nice poem and it's message is a great objective in life. It's a shame more others don't try to live this way.
Thanks for sharing this. JW

Excellent observation as to the many roles that one must play in life to create internal harmony.
Balance within yourself is the goal.
As a pilot looks at the gyroscope for guidance you must retire into yourself in order to add fond memories, discard the ranting of fools, and set your own standards.
Then you will refuse to seek to walk the path that others have declared as the way, and prevent you at every turn from advancing up the levels to be with them: the entitled, the superior, the VIP, the attention seekers, and the dull.
Although it has been repeated often, and may be a clich©, the following observation is true: "No matter where you go that is where you are."
True, our essence, our ethos, our charity, love, and humanity goes with us, therefore we often seek the quiet rooms in our minds to rest, refresh, and return to a life of peace, while still being a part of society.
Solitude is a balm that refreshes.
I believe the best thing about being alone, is being alone.
Always remember: "When a man/woman no longer confuses himself or herself with the definition of himself or herself that others have given him or her, he or she is at once universal and unique. Philosophy-Psychotherapy East & West.

Being more of an old-fashioned classical poet myself I am not too fond of non rhyming verse. However, as you are such an accomplished writer you are successful in creating a good piece of prose and it has excellent language and imagery. I agree with your philosophy about awkward people, why do they have to be like that, it is so easy to be nice!
Thank you for sharing.
