Vlad the impaler
staked enemies heads on poles
foes respect soon spiked

That picture is worth a thousand poem. It is made fully understandable. The last line is quite clever.

This was a very good 5-7-5 poem. I've studied Vlad and found him a most interesting and very dark person. The art work was very colorful and beautiful. Good luck in contest.

    Thanks, amahra, I appreciate that.
The poem lost in the contest by a single vote, it only received 7 to the winners 8.

    Thanks again...

A great write here Dean with plenty of scary music to promote it onwards and upwards. Vlad the Impaler never had it so good.

What a dramatic way to return novices to one the alleged sources of the vampire myth. Striking presentation. Contest rules followed. Love the use of spiked at the end as it has so many possible meanings that apply to this poem. No sure ole Vlad was much respected though he was much feared. I guess I just lost my head. Good luck in the contest... By the way, your musical accompaniment had an unintended consequence. When it came on, it startled my cat who was sleeping beside me. Hehehehehe, it was funny to watch him spoke at the computer...

Interesting take on the earned respect of Vlad the Impaler! I like the play on words "foes respect soon spiked". Very creative! Dramatic photo to go with the vivid imagery of words.

I enjoyed the poem! Excellent use of words. Your choice of theme was compelling. The last line's structure and meaning sold it. Good job.

An awesome 5-7-5. You captured the cruelty of those times. Especially like the second line. I can see those heads now, dripping blood, eyes open. Wonderfully executed. Les

WOW! This is just a fabulous 5-7-5, Dean. What do you mean, you don't write these? The irony in that last play on words is so clever! And your presentation is dramatic and beautiful!!!Stunning entertainment in such a little poem. I LOVED it! **************************************!!!

Hah, thanks, Dawn, I really appreciate it. If just one more had felt this way about it, then it would have easily won the contest...

Oh! I'm sorry it didn't win!

Hardly anyone in my circles seems to vote, I'm afraid, for whatever reason.
reply by Dawn Munro on 24-Nov-2013
I know I stopped 'entering' prompts because there are those who email each other for votes, apparently.

It's very time-consuming to read all the entries, and I wouldn't cast a vote without doing that - I'm always SO far behind in all I have to do, so maybe that's why others don't vote either. ??
reply by the author on 24-Nov-2013
Quite possibly. I read and review every contest, everyday. I feel it's important to recognize and reward those who enter. In addition, I write quite a bit, too. I suppose it's all subjective, and how much time you're able to devote to the site, of course. That's a BIG factor as well.
reply by Dawn Munro on 24-Nov-2013
Most definitely, time spent affects what is possible. How important is it really, when those who have integrity (don't cheat) don't have a fair advantage?

I used to enter - won a few too - but since I learned of those emailers, I have much more important things to do. (My editing and submitting are already suffering because I spend too much time on here.) The problem is, we can't know which contests are the ones attracting the cheaters, too.

Anyway, I do wish you the very best. I can't imagine how you keep up!

Hah, I am very dedicated to the cause, heh heh!

I never thought of emailing people for contest votes. People really do that? Of course, no one on Fanstory is on my email list, save for JM daSilva. If I asked him to vote for a contest, he'd roundly scold me for cheating, and I know he would, LOL!
reply by Dawn Munro on 24-Nov-2013
Well, ONE of the ones who told me so doesn't enter prompts...and that is just one. Yes. I am certain they do - SOME. Many do not, but like I said, I can't afford the time anyway.
reply by the author on 24-Nov-2013
Me either, not if that is going on! Geesh...some people, huh?
reply by Dawn Munro on 24-Nov-2013
Pretty pathetic. I feel badly if I've turned you off, but then, it takes just that much more work/time - you have to pay to enter too= MORE work/time. It's just not worth it to me...
