This is a strong writing about hope and determination.
Through all our trials, tripping and falling down, the rising up offers new hope of staying up and carrying on. We may be gnarled and twisted by our misfortunes but we can proudly carry and display these as our proof of not giving up in life's battles.
Much like the scars of a victorious warrior we wear them as reminders of past triumphs.

Debbie;
I truly enjoyed your emblematic and allegorical poem which really does have a very dramatic effect on the word hope. The picture you have chosen does have an effect on the poem and represents it very well. The imagery also was very descriptive as well as expressive: "branches nodded and now reaching towards the sun unable to grasp and hold". But you still again search out and seek hope As your final guidance.
Thank you for sharing and posting and may the Lord be with you always.

Fabulous photo and it reflects your words beautifully. It's popular to say "never give up," but holding on becomes overwhelming at times. I suspect just like this tree, we may in fact hold on, but not be left without scratches, tears and bruises. Nicely penned. AT=/

The courage to never give up and have the strength of character to carry on regardless are tremendous qualities in a human being. Well chosen words and great picture. Enjoyable read. Faye

I am writing a story to be in my book and it has to do with not giving up, but always hoping. God answered those hopes in such a beautiful way. It will be a number of chapters before I get to that story.

Quite often nature encourages us by its tenacity to hold on to life with both hands and don't let go, it's much better than giving up, when hope is gone there's no life left we never know what the next day brings, nor what lies beyond the hill. Great, well written tanka Debbie, we'll take our lead from the gnarled old tree, well done, hang on, my friend, blessings, Roy.

Debbie, this extended Tanka comes alive in each line as if the words were the tree. Yes, we all are gnarled yet distinct like the iris of our eyes and unique to our Lord. I enjoyed the alliterative sound in gnarled and knotted. Great paring of the silent letter before an n. It is thought provoking and encouraging. Well done, my friend. :0 GracieAnn
