I identify with your treasure chest, Gretchen. Not only do I have my own jewelry boxes but my mother's also. They contain just costume jewelry but are full of memories, like yours. I appreciate this good reminder that the real gems are these simple pleasures. Marilyn/BeasPeas

You are so right, there are small mundane things
that for us are treasures like photographs, cards,
things that are given to us for love and affection.
Keep your treasures my friend. I agree with you.

The irony is that I was in the jewellery industry selling high quality fine goods. Our company sold to Jared and Kay, both owned by the same company by the way. And like you, I couldn't care less. It was a commodity that wound up being my career, but did not define my needs, tastes or greedy need to own. I have some expensive pieces and I now that I walked away from the industry, I put them on at least once a year.
The treasures in our lives will always be the people we hold dear.
Great reflections.

Gretchen, what a lovely and tender tribute to a jewelry box. The true value of anything is its value to an individual. It's so good to see you posting again. Only two nits: You misspelled, PENDANTS in the first line and TREASURES in the last.

Hi, Gretchen
_ Indeed, what's in a jewelry box isn't always the monetary value, but what is in the heart.
_ Can't put a price tag on that.
_ Nice story, heartfelt story.
_ Thanks for sharing.
Cheers & Blessings

I enjoyed that and I can relate to trying to down size because I am trying to do the same. Also called de junking. I have some things that our daughters made when they were younger that I just have not been able to part with and probably never will. Good read and keep on writing.

Hi GWHARGIS,
A poignant window into the most beautiful jewels to be had. I'm returning to writing also, and you have inspired me to keep pursuing it.
Thank you and good wishes.

I love it. My husband buys me jewelry but we never go expensive. I have a Wal-Mart necklace that we got on Thanksgiving night. Roll your eyes cuz I shop Thanksgiving but I'm allergic to everything so if we don't get things on sale we're spending a ton. It was a good deal. Brand name things are just things. Those things you have from your kids and father will be worth more than anything else. Great job with this

You have been a cheap date, indeed. A woman who values her mementos above jewelry is a prize to be tended carefully. Your reverie has made a most entertaining post, and I enjoyed it.
