A sad lament and war scars men and women for life, once you have seen you cannot unsee and images can haunt. I was once in the Police and I attended a murder scene when the guy who had been stabbed was still alive. I could not get over the amount of blood in the room, it was a struggle between Landlord and tenant, the tenant died soon after and it was a murder investigation. This only happened once to me and I still see the images to this day. How it must be for soldiers is beyond my imagination. They need lots of tender care when they return hope to get their lives back. I wish you luck with the contest, I liked your short sharp verses like a gun firing and the quick wits the soldier has to have on duty 24/7, love Dolly x

Thank you so much for the read and the review and for sharing your observations at a horrible event. Some images are indelible even after many years have past.

I think this is a good entry for the Free Style Poem; Human Suffering writing prompt.
Your poem desribing the suffering of our vets is well written.
Well done and good luck to you with this one in the competition.

I really like this poem which described the suffering of a "damaged vet," a man who can't forget all he experienced in that never-ending war in Afghanistan. What makes the poem work for me are the clipped stanzas that mimic his thoughts, and the stanza refrain that bookends your poem. A tragic story well told. Rod

Whoa! Human suffering indeed! We put guys i a totally insane situation; they live through it; there is no way given to them to get un-insane after they get home. We're the crazy ones.

This speaks about human suffering, war killing, feeling of killing all types of men at war; restless action, no relaxation for days away from home, losing relationship, still thinks of misfire; well said, well done. DR ALCREATOR
