Good work .... good for a few chuckles on a day when I am held captive in my house by some virus sneaking about. Really liked the last verse. Been there done that. All in all, well conceived and well written.

Oh, my goodness - I can't remember ever seeing a guy with his fly open since I was in elementary school. Well, Tony, if buttons work better for you, then buttons it should be. This was a fun-to-read poem. Hugs, Lou

Thanks, Lou. Some years ago, I was the unfortunate guy standing at the front of the class with my fly undone! You've confirmed my suspicion that it was one of the few lessons that would have stuck in the mind of my students!

We've all had zipper problems. And then if you're at work, I work at a store, it's the line about whether to tell them or not, without being weird about it. Yep, we all understand. lol

Many thanks for your review. I suspect that ignoring it and making no mention would be the most diplomatic way to handle it. All good wishes, Tony

I remember those button flies being a fad in the sixties. They were thought to be cool, but it seemed to me that they would be much more difficult to undo in a hurry than a zipper. On the other hand, I can see what you mean about four out of five> Cute poem!

Many thanks for your review, Susan. Buttons on jeans are infernal, but on a decent pair of trousers with side pockets, no problem. All good wishes, Tony
Comment from Sylvia Page
Tony this is hilarious. I remember these pants so long ago they were worn by my father! If I remember correctly those trouser buttons were removable as well. There were button holes on both sides.
This Villanelle is crafted superbly, so I give you 6.
Best wishes
Sylvia

Many thanks for your review and generous award of a sixth star, Sylvia. It sounds as though you and your father would have shared the same opinion. I don't think I ever came across a pair with removable buttons though. All good wishes, Tony

Definitely, to each thier own. I HATE the button flies, but I see your point.
"Four buttons out of five, and I'll get by;" a great line!
I greatly enjoyed the reading- and the laughter found in- of your your poem!

Hi Tony. I like this little tongue-in-cheek poem about the fly. It certainly has been a pain in the ass at times in my life. Ever get your skin caught in the zipper? I have! Ouch! Which way do you pull then.... up or down at that point? lol
Good write my friend. Take care of ypurself. : ) Bob

Hi, Bob. Good to hear from you. I don't think I've ever got any skin caught, but the infernal zipper has sure tweaked a few hairs!
I've shaved twenty-two thousand words from my novel so far, and it's reading all the better for it.
You take care, too.
Best wishes, Tony

"Those teeth that nip the skin" I've certainly been there before, many times. I agree with you, I'm not sure why there's a "Passing of the fly". Maybe they will make a comeback. Best wishes.

This is a clever and very humorous write on a subject probably most of us have never thought of, especially we women. Thanks for a bright spot in my day by sharing your creativity.
