That first and last line is strong. I like how you used it in the poem because it is a strong statement. This isn't a warm poem - but it is an honest one. Well done.

I suppose there is always some sibling rivalry, be it brothers or sisters or both. I had only one brother and even he admitted our mother favored him. While I resented him a lot growing up, we were able to talk things out as we got older. And now we are friends.

I think jealousy is the wedge between sisters. Most cases any way from my experience. I have seen some close relationships but not many. My sister and I fall into your poem category. I tried but was never able to get close to her. Good job with description.

What a profound statement your opening line makes!
It is sad when we desire a relationship with one- especially a family close one- but to have the relationship would be toxic.

I guess the artwork is what you wish for but do not have. We do love our family but sometimes friends are more loving than our biological family.
Thankfully, my one sister is my friend. She is 10 years younger so we were not typical siblings. But as adults, we are friends and confidants.

Dear Mary, If the The subject was not so serious, the contrast between your illustration and the text of your poem, would be classic satire. ( meant to be humorous )
But I am suspecting that the content in the text is really what do you meant, and your sisters were not your friends.

Great poem. This poem reminded me of a case I know of two sisters that one is cruel and the other has a beautiful heart. You can love your sister, but family doesn't necessarily mean they are also our friends. Unfortunately, some individuals will never better themselves. It's their nature.
