YThe title for this essay is enchanting, and I agree with you write in here, yes, sometimes beauty speaks to us. I have never been in Hawaii, but now, for sure, I would like to visit those dreamy places... I wish you well in the contest.

This was an excellently well drawn seen that used evocative language to great effect in transporting the reader to your Happy Place. Thank you for sharing.
I found one possible edit that may be a typo:
"...beaches were pure white bas freshly fallen snow..."
I think it is intended to be "as freshly fallen snow."
Thanks again!

I have been to Hawaii several times in the Navy and several times on vacation with my family. It is a paradise as you described. I wish you all the luck in the contest.

Lovely description of your happy place.
"...sand so white you swear it's sugar... Gulches so deep and steep you don't make it to the bottom still on your feet."
Nicely done.

That sounds extremely beautiful, and all the more valued because of the extreme effort it took to reach it. Your writing is clear and enjoyable. Best wishes for the contest.

The ledge on Hill 1010 sounds like the perfect happy place. You wrote a real story and I enjoyed it. I could picture everything perfectly. This was my favorite paragraph: I'm not a little guy. I started sweating just looking at what we had to do. But the quicker you get to it, the quicker you get it done. Good job and best of luck in the contest.

This biographical essay contest entry stands at its own, the sense of place - Walt Disney World is impressive, so expressively sensed about, depicted as your happy place; well said, well done, thanks for sharing this. ALCREATOR

Exhilarating! Sense of place and person--i.e. you--masterfully rendered in fine prose.
The beaches were pure white bas [AS] freshly fallen snow.
The sky was bluer than the ocean [COMMA] without a cloud in it [SEMICOLON] listening to the Trade Winds rustling through the leaves was almost hypnotic.
My squad must have found the view relaxing too [SEMICOLON] I had to wake a couple up to get moving.
People laugh at me [BECAUSE] in later years [COMMA] whenever I would get stressed or angry [COMMA] I'd talk to myself and recall that scene.

I love how you describe finding your happy place during a time of stress(for lack of a better word). I also like how you still return there in your mind. If you had to carry 75 pounds, too bad 5 pounds wasn't a camera. Ha. I could see you climbing the hill, admiring the view. Nice work
