Your title says it all, Sally. Great job with your contest entry. It's all about perception and taking charge of one's own happiness or not. Rain can be gloomy, but if one looks beyond there's a rainbow waiting. One can't stop the rain, but one can react in a positive way. Best wishes.
Respectfully, Jan

Regardless of the weather--even if its dark, cold, and rainy--those who crave warmth and cheer will seek till they find it. Another allusion to music, which is so powerful--very fitting

Yes, city lights can't almost make us forget about the rain. Almost. But only if we've got a pocket or purse full of money these days, inflation out of control. Thanks for sharing.

Like life, rain is also full of beauty... up to some point. Like the smell, the feel of the cool breeze. Some people walk in the rain. I used to do it in my younger days. I like your short and sweet poem. Good luck!

Nice Sally! I see the direction you are going here... I suppose for me though, those city lights represent, " no warmth or cheer."
I like, that in 4 simple lines you convey different interpretations :-)
Well written and presented! Good luck in the contest!!

Neat! Liked the way you expressed your mood change, brought about by the city lights.
And hey, beautiful music! You found a moment of cheer in a rainy, depressing day. We are all affected by those days, but it is amazing how, after the storm has passed and the world is fresh-washed, the sun bright and golden, raindrops like diamonds on the tree leaves. Our lives renewed.
And rainbows? That little extra.

Doom and gloom surround our world, but it only takes a moment to find pleasure and the bright side if we only open our eyes and heart to know it is waiting there. Your poem tells us we can brighten our world by enjoying the welcome city lights or whatever wonderful thing might add a bit of sunshine and send the sadness away. Smiles, Carol

I think you have a winner here, Sally. I would truly be surprised if it doesn't make the leaderboard. I love the mood switch in your final line. Dreary turns to delightful. What an original idea.
Clever, clever, clever, Sally. I'm glad that I read your poem. I like the thought processes it shows.

I thought I heard Gart Brooks singing, Kansas City Lights.
I see nothing with this four-legged poem. It seems to stand very well.
