Hi Jim,
This is a good myth about why Pluto got kicked out of the group of plants.
He had to be a real jerk to get all the dwarfs around him and the other 8 planets to go after him. Good personification of the planets.
Thanks for the history and the scientific reasoning behind Pluto's reclassification.
Keep writing and stay healthy.

I feel as though I've gone on a Magic Carpet Ride. This entire presentation, poem and author's notes is as captivating as it is educational. The rhymical flow of your poetry made it effortless to read and enjoy, while learning about Pluto. I'm glad to award my first six stars of the week.

Haha, your conclusion as to why Pluto became such a fuss budget was right on! I agree with the conservatory involved that unless Pluto became a closer planet he would never end up too much at all. Thanks for sharing this fun and enjoyable rant! I often think of Pluto and how he ended up a non-planet with his careless feelings set aside.

I guess he just decided that the insults weren't working, and he liked the feeling of being adored by the Earthlings.
Thanks for the good review, Jesse.

I am glad, Jim, you decided to divide this into two poems. Insults slung at anyone don't have a good effect.
Comment from Pam Lonsdale
Well, Jim, there was a point while reading this that I was quite certain you were talking about politics and a certain politician, but as I read on, and read your notes, I see it's just a very clever way of giving us an education on the planet, Pluto.
I've come to look at your poetry as clever and just downright fun to read.
By the way, we have the Masters on as I type this:-)

Thank you so much Pam for that wonderful review and the 6 stars. Hopefully today will be better at the Masters. Happy to see that Tiger made the cut and that he has tied the cut streak there. I've always been a big fan of his.

I know not why I save my sixes but for you my friend to take the time to research and re-read your notes taken in physics class is entitled to one of them. The rhythm is swell, and the piece enlightening, but I ended being puzzled how did Pluto rise from the puddle?

Great question, Tom!
Both Earth and Pluto have negative polarity, but being so much smaller, Pluto's was not enough to generate the magnetic repulsion necessary to overcome Earth's gravitational pull. Once he sat in the ocean long enough, the sea water that he soaked up created enough negative polarity that Pluto eventually had a sufficient amount to overcome the gravitational pull, and he was able to rise up and leave.
That's my theory, and I'm sticking with it!

That mind of yours has all the answers, hasn't it? :-)
Comment from Debbie D'Arcy
Brilliant, original and fascinating expose on Pluto. Such fun and so informative, the verse is perfectly metered with great rhymes and rhythm. I love the way it can also be an analogy for those with Napoleon complex (of whom there are many) and bullies in general. Also enjoyed the pun on "gas bags" Thanks so much for sharing. Certainly put a smile on my face. Best wishes, Debbie

Jim, you have continued to excel in your astronomical muse. You had me chuckling all the way through the entire poem, which of course I read from the very beginning to get the whole story this time. It was very clever to present it in 2 parts rather than overwhelming readers with its length initially Hail oh Master!

Ah, you're too kind, Julie. I have to confess that the reason I presented it in 2 parts was that I hadn't written Part 2 yet when I finished Part 1, and hadn't yet decided the direction I would take in Part 2. But I did think it would be too long if I waited until it was completely written, so I decided to just post Part 1 when it was done.

Whatever, however, it was the best way. In fact I have some poetic sagas I considered too long for fs; maybe I'll serialize them!
Comment from Sandra Stoner-Mitchell
That was such a fabulous poem, Jim, I loved the story you made around Pluto. It led to a conversation between me and my husband. We are both stargazers, we did a lot when we lived in Spain where there wasn't so much light pollution. It's not too bad in the UK where we live now.
You did an excellent job with your author's notes as well.
I thought this could be turned into a fabulous children's book, it's educational as well as fun. Being taught that being helpful and nice is far more rewarding than being a nasty bully. I know a few children who could benefit from this poem. Very well done, my friend. :)) Sandra xx

Thank you so much for this wonderful review, Sandra. I will think about your suggestion.
-
I truly think you should. I've written many children's books, and many schools in the UK have had me visit to read them to their younger children. It's so rewarding. Yours would do really well. xx
-
Thank you! Do you have any suggestions for a literary agent or publisher?
-
I had a children's book publisher in the UK, but they have gone out of business, they blamed it on Amazon. But that's the way of businesses. What I do now, and I'd advise you to do the same, is get the Artists' and Writers' Year Book 2023 it has all the information you need for publishers and agents. What they want from you, ie intro letter, synopsis, and other things, how to send your manuscript, (mostly they have their own website that you send to. There are some who just say send the whole in pdf. There is so much you can find out in that book. It's a valuable book to have on your shelf. It's in sections, so you would just look for children's agents, or publishers. There are hundreds, so you should find a few interested in your work. Go for it, you have nothing to lose and so many children will benefit. xxx

Thanks for the great advice, Sandra.

You are very welcome. xx
