How can a teacher say it is not his job to encourage his students as this is exactly what they should be doing! On the other hand, I do believe that Waylon should learn to be tough when meeting up with characters like Mr Tomlin, as they will meet his kind in the work place. I try and teach my Grandchildren to be tough when faced with people who are over critical. One person's opinion should not wreck our self-esteem. I double Mr Tomlin will be disturbed by Miranda's empty threats, but there again he does have two answer to those in charge at the school.

Another fine chapter Gretchen, love Dolly x x x

Thank you so much. I had a teacher tell me that. About one of my children. He needs to learn how to fail. I said trying and failing is fine, but being discouraged and told they'll never make it is wrong. I appreciate the kind review. Gretchen

I have a lighthearted approach to my lessons at school and didn't take my learning serious and I was accused of being frivolous by one of the teachers. I never forgot those words, love Dolly x x x

Well, structurally, everything is fine. Contextually, hmmm. Yes, Mr. Tomlin was purposely written to be a bully, even though based on his note, he's not much of one. I would look at the encounter again. It feels very forced, where Tomlin is a 2D bully. I think you, as the author, recognized some of this and voiced those doubts through Mitch.

Also, if Waylon is a junior in high school, why would Miranda think a deadbeat dad would go to court to get back his abandoned kid, just before he becomes as adult?

note

"You're such a good mom, Mitch," I whisper.

- not a good dad? And he was fine with that? Also, he didn't ask to come over to put her to sleep? He is a man.

I take Waylon to school in the morning, drop him off and purposely avoid eye contact with Mr. Tomlin
- Why would she even see him at this point? This isn't kindergarten. How would she recognize him? And, unless he's stupid, why would he engage with her in such a way?
-Yes, I know the FS members love to hate anything bully related. I know, I know.

She had a slight run-in with him the previous week, but yes, she is jumping in with both feet. I will work on fleshing him out more. Tomlin is considered big man on campus. Thanks for your feedback. Much appreciated.

I loved her pissy attitude. Never attack a beloved child, woe to Mr. Tomlin. You capture some strong personalities and even the short bit I read of this story is engaging enough to tease me to read more. Good job. Esther
