My Faith Restores

The theme of the rondeau is excellent without recourse to over sentiment. Despite the usual spiritual references to night/day or sorrow/faith or hope/heart, the poem resonates a basic truth..we have to move on in life despite tribulations and to do that, some survive on faith while others on perseverance or both. Well versed and rhymed with the required meter.

An excellent mantra to live by, Brooke:
"Despair shall never win the fight
to wrap my world in endless night,
for just as sorrow seems too strong,
my faith restores.
Very fine writing as usual. Bob

Excellent Rondeau with a good message. Uses a partial repeating line, holding with the original rondeau. Great rhythm and rhyme scheme.

You're welcome Brooke.
I'm debating on whether to take your Advanced Poetry class,
Dennis
-
I hope you decide in favor of it :-)
-
I have a lot on my plate right now, so I'm not sure I'll be able to. Do you know the days and times the class will be held?
Dennis
-
The class will meet on Monday and Wednesday - I always work with the students to find a time that works even if it means teaching two sections :-)
-
Thanks Brooke,
That might work out for me.
Dennis

I sure hope so :-)

This is a very emotional poem about your faith. The second stanza says it all for me. Without our faith, what would we have to get us through troubled times? I wish you the best of luck in the contest. It looks like a sure winner to me. Take care. Bill

Beautifully constructed poem. I share your sentiment of the sense of renewal in the early morning.
'Despair shall never win the fight to wrap my world in endless night' sounds like a credo.. Beautiful photo you chose....

Another excellent Rondeau, and a very strong submission for the Faith Poetry contest. Your confidence that your faith will provide comfort and support you comes shining through in the refrain 'My Faith Restores'
Good choice of the two rhyming sounds - That is the key to good Rondeaux.
Loved this one, Brooke.
Rose.

Hi Brooke
I'm so glad I am able to offer you six stars!
"My faith restores me dawn by dawn
as silent night gives way to song,
and life, once huddled in the night,
begins to stir with morning light
as if the day had never gone." ... I picture you "huddled" in your bed, about to "stir with morning light". The birds are singing outside, "as silent night gives way to song". Dawn has a way of restoring your faith in God, knowing He is always there, whether darkness enfolds or Sun breaks forth. You don't step out of bed without Him at your side.
"At times when troubles last too long
and keep the cloak of darkness drawn,
when sorrow has me in its sights,
my faith restores." ... I especially love your line, "when sorrow has me in its sights". This is fine personification as well as alliteration. It reminds me suddenly of a speech by Sean Penn in the movie "We're No Heroes" when he says,
"Everything happens to everybody. And you ain't gonna find nothing in your pocket that can stave it off. Nothing can stave it off." ...We need God in our lives "dawn by dawn", not just when we run out of ideas on how to handle things, not just when we think we need Him. There's nothing in our own pockets that will help. We need to look to God for help.
I like the alliteration here too,
"within a heart that hears hope's songs"
Your poem is about facing the day, with God at our side,
"Despair shall never win the fight
to wrap my world in endless night,
for just as sorrow seems too strong,
my faith restores."
"He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake." Psalm 23:3
Nicely penned, Brooke! Perfect rondeau, this is an excellent entry for the Faith Poetry contest.

Kimbob, thank you :-) I always know when I write that there will be you out in the "audience," who really and truly reads each line and will do your best to understand each word and relate to each line. I truly appreciate you, my friend, and of course, I appreciate your generous sixth star. Brooke :-)

Hi Brooke,
I made a mistake in my review when I named Sean Penn's movie as "We're No Heroes". It was "We're No Angels". Sean Penn and Robert DeNiro starred as escaped convicts who masqueraded as monks in a border monastery during the dirty 30's. It was an excellent movie!

The perfect form for this affirmation of faith and the return to it each time the world overwhelms. Alliteration aplenty but not intrusive and the flow is as serene as the heart when faith is restored.- Wendy
