A great poem. I love the way you expressed making the moment last.

What a great shout out to your favourite hotdog servery and a pity your late mother was not with you.
I'm sure she was there in spirit though. She was probably looking over you wanting to wipe the sauce from the corner of your mouth LOL
Nicely done. A fitting tribute to a simple but satisfying memory. Not to mention a pretty yummy one at that LOL
Well done
cheers P

Oh, thank you, P., for your generous review. Yes, my dearly departed mother was with us there at the hot dog stand in spirit.

There are some elements woven into this nostalgic bit of free verse. I liked how you spread the words out in "We ate those hot dogs one at a time" to catch the sense of the action, of slowly eating. Nice image at the end, cementing this image in the concrete at the Chinese restaurant in Hollywood with all the other timeless greats and timeless moments. estory

Oh, thank you, estory, for your review of my nostalgic free verse. I wanted the poem to reflect my experience at dining at Skooby's

"Hot Dogs, French Fries and Lemonade", is an extremely well-written and heart-warming piece. This talented poet's work takes me back to the days when I was young. It was a pleasure to both read and review a work of this standard.

Ode contest winner! Congratulations, Andre. I was disqualified because I didn't read the rules and entered an ode to a person. In fact, I remember looking at the title of the entries and thought, "What kind of nut would write an ode to a hotdog? Now I know, Bwahahaha. But it is really quite charming, though you missed an opportunity... "who called herself "Yeller Gal."" If she would have been called "Old Yeller" because Ma was a dog, that would have been hilarious!

Yes, Thal, my mother was nicknamed Yeller Gal because she was a light complexioned African American. I am glad my hot dog ode thrilled you. Thank you for the congratulations.

You're welcome, Andre.

Another good one, my friend. What can you say. Is it an ode to hot dogs, or the phenomenon of fast food places in California. Personally, In and Out is also a favorite, but I digress. I like your style and tone, Nice entry.

Great memories are what a lot of poetry is made of.Sounds like a fun place to eat and people watch. It's nice that you included a picture of the real place.

I can think of no finer dining establishment to write an ode to--the humble hot dog stand! Bravo! Seems like "Skooby's" serves its purpose well - dishing up fine dogs, fries and lemonade, along with a side dish of warm family memories.
Well done, and congrats on your win!
