This nonet, Besieged by Ermine White, has the proper nine-to-one descending syllable formatting and captures nature's will against what tries to resist. Life in general relents to the icy, irresistible force of winter. Nice poem.

This is a beautifully written nonet about trees being covered with snow. I think this is probably one on the only positive beauties of Winter. I like the personification of the trees with the moaning.
Good luck and keep writing
Joan

Well-done on complying with the syllabic requirements of a nonet. Nice half rhyme of 'ice' and 'lies.' You have a neat lay-out here with the photo and color choice. Very much enjoyed the lines:to limbs now burdened with ice;
their waning splendor heaves
Nice share.

Hello Diane. This is a very interesting poem to me. It describes the method by which leaves are buried beneath a layer of white snow. Your descriptive narrative of how that happens is very pleasant to read. I use unusual descriptions sometimes because I believe that content drives every written work. Style is nice, but content is golden. So don't pay any attention to my critique of anything. I like this poem. Robert

    Hello Duchess!
So pleased you enjoyed and my words resonated with you!
We are in the midst of our second winter storm in four days, and it's a doozy! Too soon!
    Thank you again!

I love it the nonet looks perfect the words are beautiful. The contrast with the red and white in the picture suits the words. I have mountain ash trees and the berries are exactly that color. All the best in the contest, Laura

    Hello Laura!
I am deeply honored by your exceptional rating and complimentary review.
We, too, have two mountain ash trees - still heavy with their berries.
But tonight, we are under a winter storm warning - the 2nd in four days! Not amused!
I penned this as I watched the storm heighten this afternoon...
    Thank you again!
    Most appreciated.

Ermine white is a very vivid description of pristine snowfall. I like the correlation between the falling leaves and the diminishing structure of the nonet.

Strong verbs, heaves and moans, add movement and sound to your write.

I enjoyed this poem. Good luck in the contest.

Blessings Julia

    Hello Julia,
I am so pleased my words resonated with you.
You are the only reviewer that mentioned the correlation between "the falling leaves and the diminishing structure of the nonet." That comment made me smile. Nonets can be tricky when it comes to following the prescriptive form, making it look like an inverted isosceles triangle, and creating a visual or emotive message. So much fun to attempt!

    Thank you!

I enjoyed this nonet for its lovely way of describing autumn leaves being covered by "ermine white". I also think it's a very strong entry for the contest and hope it carries the winner's badge after the voting. I wish you good luck and thanks for sharing this pretty and lovely poem!

I am honored by your excellent rating and complimentary review, Gypsy.
I wrote this while gazing out my family room's windows. We are experiencing the second snow/ice storm in four days here in Traverse City, Michigan. It's going to be a long winter, I fear...

    Thank you again!

A lovely and well formed nonet, Diane! Loved your description of the "moaning, mottled leaves" being covered by "ermine." It's always a little sad when autumn doesn't have her full say but then winter is so lovely, too! Best wishes in the contest!

    Hello Helen!
I agree with your assessment of the beauty of both seasons. However, Mother Nature has buried us with two snow/ice storms during the past four days, and we are none too happy as we still have raking to complete and gardens to clean! Just stuck my head outside, and it is sleeting! Darn her!
    Thank you again!

Oh, that's why you chose that picture! It was like that last year fro us. Hope the weather doesn't get too cold for you!

While I am just getting acquainted with nonet poetry, I will say this flows very smoothly and paints a mental image, even without your beautiful picture of the passing of one season into another.
