You draw a good parallel here. There's much truth both in your poem and your quotation.
It's a pity there isn't a good two-syllable alternative for religion or writing so you could join them with a conjugation. 'Belief' might almost do it.

I knowww!! That was really galling me last night, but I finally decided that I'd have to settle for a damn slash mark. Thanks for the "belief" alternative, but the impact isn't quite enough. I appreciate your offer, though. I honestly do. xo

Well, you are absolutely right - showing, not telling, is the true test of both. You have a real understanding of how to make these short poems work for you; 17 syllables say more than even 17 words here.
And I love the Booker quote. I wonder where we'd be if he had stood up and offered again to run for president this cycle; God knows we wouldn't be facing two old, white, clueless individuals. But that's another story.
I had hoped for a short story from you this morning, but I'll take what scraps you throw us:-)
xoxo

Oh, man! It's never enough for your sicko self, is it? Nag, nag, nag; push, push, push!! But, as a Jew, I appreciate the torment, so thank you.

LOL! Yes, you're "people" are used to the persecution. I was thrilled to see not one but two pieces from you this morning. Do you feel better now, princess?

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yes, knave.

My mother used to say, "Love is something you Do, not something you say." What you see a person do is more profound than what they say they are going to do. You poem expresses it so well. In exceptional writing, the author will SHOW rather then merely TELL.

No truer words have been spoken. I fall short daily but never fail to pray often. Thank you for sharing this, my friend.
Hope your day was awesome.

I like your 5/7/5 poem and quote from Cory Booker - excellent picture presentation - the message in my opinion is spot on - experience tells me that this is not always what it might seem - the internal workings of some religious organizations espouse these values while, at the same time are very viscous to those who don't see eye to eye with their interpretation - my brother is a minister... in his early days was on a short leash. Normal I suppose. Good Message - Bless Alan

You should have entered this in a contest. I'm sure the judges would have loved it. I do. Since I live in the bible belt I hear this preaching a lot from people who don't practice what they preach.

It's everywhere, believe me, not just in the bible belt. People everywhere say something in the name of the Almighty and then turn around and do the exact opposite. Thanks for the wonderful review. xo

Rachel,
I do like the sentiment expressed in your 5-7-5 poem. And I like Cory Booker and what he says (in the quotation) and how he represents what is good in our country - citizenship and civility in his legislative actions.
It is not what you say, but what you DO in life (that makes his approach so valuable).

It so totally is. Thank you for "getting" me this morning. It's every writer's purpose for writing, after all!! xoxo

How I wish I still had a 6 for this wonderful poem. Talk is cheap and so is writing. In the world today, more than I can remember in my lifetime, the hypocrisy is open, alive and shoved in our faces. Just a great use of words in the 5-7-5. Thank you for sharing.

The quote is an excellent one. The two must go together, words and deeds. Your 5-7-5 expressed well the common thread between religion and writing. Writers are always being exhorted to show rather than tell and allow the reader to deduce and think. Same with one's faith. No one has ever been forced into God's kingdom by logical argument. Walk the walk. Then if people show interest one can talk the talk. I do like the link. Well done.

And Wendy, NO ONE does that walking better than you. It is, in fact, my favorite quality of yours. You always "show."
Thank you for this terrific review. xo
Comment from Gypsy Blue Rose
I agree with the concept of walk what you preach. Actions are louder the words.
Good syllables count. Good connection between lines. Nice presentation.
