This must have been a terrifying moment for Mrs Kennedy! I have seen the footage and it is such a sad event and he was a popular president at the time. I enjoyed your descriptions and your atmospheric words, love Dolly x

The world did bleed on that day - we were glued to the TV saw the whole drama play out where Ruby shot the so-called culprit (and was he really alone) and then Ruby was in his final days anywa y - all kind of conspiracy theories roamed about.
a day of sadness. good job.

That old adage 'only the good die young' rings true. He may have played around with women, but Kennedy did try to do what's right for the American people.
You did a good job capturing the key elements of this horrible scenario. (I've seen documentaries on JFK.) I particularly liked the last line - very poignant. Hugs, Lou

Excellent poem. I remember that day so clearly as everyone else probably does. Your last line is so true "and the world began to bleed."
You did a good job with the images.

As if you were near the car when the shots rang out. Good imagery and great descriptions for this encounter of the death of President Kennedy. I was only 8 yrs. old then but I remember the shock on the parents in the neighborhood,. Like When Princess Dianne died. Unbelievable.
good penning

How well I remember that day, just as I recall where I was when the twin towers came down. Horrible tragedies for our nation, and some of the wounds will never heal. I love how you ended this... last two lines are perfect! :)

I think that's pretty much what it would have been like to have been there. It would have been a terrible shock. I was six when Kennedy was killed and I didn't really understand what was going on. I don't think I knew who he was. Of course I learned in later years.

Comment from Gloria ....
Yes it has been said it was the end of Camelot. The assassination of JFK affected the world in ways people never dreamed it would and TV carried news of it into everyone's home.
Your poem illustrates this very well Linda. :)

Excellent post. In Oz we sat glued to the TV, couldn't believe what we were watching; was it real? He was so loved, the family so well known, popular President who was warned not to go to Dallas. Fate showed its hand that fateful day. There hasn't been a better President since. Obama came so close. Well written, grabbed the reader, made that day real.

A moment etched in the minds and memories of all those who are old enough to have lived through it. I was not yet born but history has documented it, conspiracy theorists have re imagined it many times over it. It was one of the saddest and darkest days is US history and it will never be forgotten : )) Nice!
