Dean;
+ It's amazing that you wrote this because twice I have been under the night and I awoke during an operation. I didn't feel them cutting , but an assistant doctor noticed that I was awake and administered a stronger sedative. Another time I was having my Achilles tendon tear repaired and I also woke during the operation and again they gave me something stronger. So this hit home Very intensely.
+ Your writing is most impressive and to me more than just scary but horrendously frightening for I personally have a direct relationship with it. I think the background music is a little bit too long for the reading. Because it would definitely interrupting my thoughts while I was doing my review.
+ Very well done, Dean, and you are an excellent writer of horror.
+ The picture you have chosen, also is very frightening within itself And a great choice for this writing.
+ Thank you for sharing and posting and may the good Lord be with you always my friend.

Thanks very much, Alex, and it happened to me too, when they implanted my defibrillator. I woke up in the middle of the operation and felt the tugging and pushing of the device into my chest. There wasn't any pain, but I could feel the tugging, and I was terrified. When I spoke, everything got instantly quiet, as quiet as an ancient tomb. The next thing I knew, I was in recovery.

That;s the inspiration behind this story. I'm sure it is a fear that many of us share, at last I hope so, heh-heh...

Thanks so much again for your review, my friend. ~Dean ;)

Dean; So we can guess that were not the only ones also. It's a very horrifying experience. The following operations that followed this, in the future after my experiences, were done very meticulously by the doctor to make sure it wouldn't happen again. And one time I saw my chart before the operation and they had a note relative to my problems with anesthesia.
And by the way you are so sincerely welcome, Dean.

They told me afterward, after the incident occurred, that I required four times the normal amount of anesthetic for someone of my size and weight (5'8", 160 lbs.) They felt very bad about it...

That's truly interesting Dean. At the times I weigh 225 pounds and I'm 6'2" and what's fairly in good shape. Now they give me anesthesia also through my nose. They need to go to my notes with a scope so they can put down to two in my throat because I have a crooked throat. And like you, they have to up my doses. Not all of us are like, are we? Take care my friend and I hope soon. Neither one of us had to go through that again.

This is one is terrifying, Dean. They know and they are going to operate? How could they can follow their oaths as doctors. Or maybe they never took their oaths. And that nurse is just sadistic as can be!

Thanks, debi. That is one of my greatest fears, to be awake while being operated on. Probably because it actually happened to me when they implanted the defibrillator in my chest. I awoke in the middle of the operation... It was terrifying...

    Thanks again. ~Dean

And I have surgery coming up.
You know I will be thinking of this
Very well done and it does happen more than not. I used to be a surgical nurse and I remember one case it did. Wow

Yikes! This is really creepy! And probably not even one hundred words. This probably has happened at least one-- take away the hissing nurse.

Thanks, Spit, and you're right, it is 96 words exactly. A very lean story but I hope it's terrifying none the less. I very much appreciate your comments. :) ~Dean

I'm glad to know that your book has branched out to include other authors. Most people are too protective of their work to share. I hope you get some good contributors, although I don't think Charlie the Goldfish wants to play.

I enjoyed the story this time, as I always do. As always, you come up with a twist at then end. I didn't think they knew she was awake. You always hear stories of people who wake up in surgery and can't get anyone's attention. I should have known that wasn't where you were going with it!

Nicely creepy!
Rhonda

I think with this one you hit on the fear of anyone who has to have surgery. The thought of waking during the procedure. How gross this would be and to make it more horrifying realizing they knew it. Good teasing tone in this one.

Thanks, Gretchen, and something similar to this actually happened to me. Of course, there was no hissing nurses or anything sinister about it. I simply awoke during surgery and although there was no pain involved, I was truly mortified.

I very much appreciate your review. :) ~Dean

I have had so many surgeries that this is a nightmare I feared having every time. Fortunately I was always unconscious. I cannot imagine the terror a person must go through if this does happen and I know it has...that's what scares the heck out of me. Great work with this one and a perfect prologue.

Horror, for sure! Great job, Dean. The nurse leaning in with her line was the thing that scared me.

One suggestion - move the modifier "overhead" nearer to the words it modifies.
EX: bright lights overhead in the operating room"

Best wishes in your work.
