I can relate to this poem very well. My grandma died of alzheimer disease. My mom, brother and I took care of her until she died. She battled with it for 6-7 years. We care for her at home. It was a challenge because I was in nursing school and didn't really have much time for enjoyment but it worth it because I loved her so much. I called her my chocolate crumble. The photo you selected compliments your poem well. Well written.

Thank you Dolly. I must admit tat I thought about my own marriage when I wrote this. I pray that I won't have to go through this, but at the same time I do not want to subject my family to having to care for me long term either.

So touching and sad!!! The power of words to bring others into sympathy. I can only imagine what it's like being there for someone going through such a terrible disease :/

Thank you, My father went through this for 7 years, but he was in another state far away from me, fortunately my aunt was nearby and she looked after him in the nursing home he was a resident of.

Hello!
I too have written a piece on this horrible disease. I have lost family members to alzheimers and dementia. It is such a heart breaking thing to have to watch someone go through. Thank you for sharing.

Your poem paints a realistic picture of most any loving couple
facing Alzheimer's. I like the use of rhyme. As I read, I could
imagine one saying this to the other. It's a sad reminder of the
love the couple has even in the face of this dreaded illness.
The image is a great pairing with your well thought out words.
Respectfully, Jan

Wow, this is a very touching and heartfelt poem. I love the picture with the couple hiking in the woods offering their hands to each other. This represents so well the way a lot of mates feel when their spouses develop Alheimzers and they watch with knowing eyes the demise of them knowing who they are anymore. Well done, my friend!
Thanks for sharing your feelings after watching the movie The Notebook.

I've watched The Notebook three times. It's a sad but romantic story. I have a relative who has recently been diagnosed with dementia, and as I read your poem, I think of those closest to her who care for her. Your poem demonstrates the same loving loyalty as the movie. We of sound mind should be grateful.

Thank you. My dad had this horrible disease and it really hurt to see him reduced to the state he was in at the end.

It's a great film and deserves the accolades. Alzheimer's robs the most precious things people take into old age, and it takes a lot of patience and courage for a spouse to deal with it. Thanks for bringing people's attention to the subject.

-Nice image and presentation, nomi.
-Thanks for the notes.
-You wrote a good poem with good
examples and rhyme.
-I like the repetition of phrases in the opening lines.
-A very caring attitude comes through each one;
not giving up on the person, still caring no matter what.
-The last two lines are very good.
-You capture the essence of the movie and book very well,
as well as the impact of the disease on both partners.

Thank you very much. My dad had it and lasted for 7 years before dying. So it is very personal to me.
