An outstanding composition creating a vivid and delightful imagery and above all the presentation/style has a superb flow; a true treat, thank you.

Does that hot dog stand still exist? I've been to that courtyard several times but only had eyes for the stars.
Enjoyed the recitation by you and your adaption to the long pauses. Loved the bit about your mother and the lemon tree. My daughter works at The Grove in L.A. I'll ask if she's familiar with it. French fries-ummmmmmmmmmm, my favorite.

Yes, Spitfire, Skooby's still exists. Here is the website http://www.skoobys.com/
Thank you for your review of my poem and my recitation. I adapted my spoken words to the page so that they sound like the way I said them with long pauses and mmm. The lemonade triggered memories of my mother and her lemon tree. Thanks again for your review.

Good poem telling about your memories of the hot dog stand. Also about memories of your mom's lemon pies, and cakes as you were growing up.

Thank you, GWinterwin, for your review of my poem which won me my first FanStory poetry contest award. The lemonade triggered my memory of my mother's lemon tree and the desserts she used to bake from it. Eating with my siblings at Skooby's a year after our mother died made the meal bittersweet. I am glad I was able to share our memories with you. Thanks.

Great piece of fond memories and also living in the moment. I enjoyed the entire presentation in which I have formed my own rendition in my mind which appears to be remarkably like yours.

Yes, artemis53, "living in the moment." So often, especially with fast food, we forget what makes that moment special. We may not even taste the food. I knew that moment was special because how often do I get to eat hot dogs with my siblings and partner while seated on stools on the Hollywood Walk of Fame? My senses heightened as I slowed the meal down and tasted and observed everything. I wanted the moment to last forever. I composed this poem in my head and on a napkin. I am glad you formed your own rendition of my poem in your mind. Thanks.

Deepest corner of our hearts contain these tiny memories of childhood with siblings. I loved this stanza and I keep reading it again and again -
And memories of a backyard lemon tree
which fed us meringue pies
and chiffon cakes
baked by our mother
who called herself "Yeller Gal.
I loved the way you expressed your memories about your mother who made lovely meringue pies and chiffon cakes.
I enjoyed it even more when I heard your recital. I am glad I read your poem.

I loved this poem! Your use of imagery was wonderful. I have never really been a fan of hot dogs or lemonade, but the emotion that you can display through this meal with your family is moving.

I can see why your poem won the contest. It just feels so good and oh so much fun at this Hotdog stand full of memories. Your words also have a musical feel to them. Love the lines about the backyard lemon tree from which lemon meringue pies came forth.

Hey, those memories are the biggest stars on the sidewalk. This one is pure mouth candy, meant to be read aloud like the hot dog vendor hawking his wares. I really like the transition to your own personal memories and back and the typographical word play. Just one question- no ketchup on the dogs, right?

Yes, ravenblack, those memories are the biggest stars on the sidewalks. This poem is mouth candy meant to read aloud. I used typographical word play to translate the spoken word to the written word so that they would sound the way I performed them.
We had ketchup on the dogs.

congrats on the win! by the way, the ketchup question is from a line in a Dirty Harry movie. in it, Eastwood is at a gruesome crime scene grimacing, looking sick. a cop munching on a hot dog laughs, asking if Clint will be sick. Clint's relies that he is getting sick because the cop put ketchup on his hotdog. Chicago style- mustard. no ketchup lol.
