History is wonderful to remember. It's great that you can remember what life was like back then....your children will so appreciate your nonfictional facts/writings. I have to catch up on reading some of your prior chapters.

I like this family styple story. It's nice to get acquainted to familiar events, kids, grandkids, grandma's, etc. It happens that I have twins in my family as well. That note invited me to read this chapter. My twins are only 9.

Twins are fun but they can cause some anxious moments. My twins aren't very much alike being a girl and boy. Thank you for reading my story and comments.

Poor kid having chicken pox and on her birthday too. I'm sure getting the presents she wanted made it a little better. I do hope Carol didn't stumble into a cult. It'll be interesting to see what happens between her and her friend, and what you decide about the van. Your chapter is well-written, very interesting. I look forward to reading more.

Oh, what a heavy burden on Carol to have to dole out the money for the twins. And I was shocked that Don would sell his blood! That's scary especially since he is such an athlete. I hope that Carol didn't get too much into that legalistic type of Christianity. You must have been so worried.

Wartime was horrible in Korea and many children were abandoned. My paternal grandfather started to pick up stray children in the marketplace and bring them home. That's how he started an orphanage. I hope Carol's friend became well adjusted despite being adopted so late.

Thank you Helen. Yes it wasn't fair of us to put that burden on Carol but the twins were lost when it came to money matters. It they had access to any money they used it immediately. At the time, Carol was the only one with any common sense in matters of money. Yes for a while Carol did become very legalistic.
Tommy adjusted nicely. He had some problems but he is a chemist not and has an excellent career. He and Carol talk occasionally but they didn't make it as a couple.

This was another interesting chapter. very informative and I am enjoying going along on the ride with you. Just one very tiny error this time around. Neither[,] his background....Good news. Someone has paid for another year on FS for me.

Thank you for another great review. I'm glad you are going along for the ride. I'm so happy to hear that you will be on FanStory for another years. My membership will be coming up for renewal in January. You are lucky to have friends who pay for yours.

Been thinking of writing another poem about it. Watch for it.

Hi Beth, this is another great continuation to your story. I love it. Now, bringing up teenagers is difficult enough if you only have one, as I did. But seeing four of them through that rebellious age cannot have been easy. I admire you for that. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla. It had its problems but it was fun at time and made life interesting. I don't regret having any of them.

Gripping--rich with detail; skillfully incorporated historical context. What's the deal with the cult--I'm fascinated! I have a Christian colleague who believes in long skirts, head-covering, no makeup.

(title typo: thre s/b three)

She let us know she was ready to [come home s/b go back].

The week we had taken Carol to Newton [omit comma] was the week prior to Connie's seventh birthday.

Your sister, Nan [period s/b comma] happened to be visiting your mother that weekend.

However [comma] having served in the Korean War, you were concerned about what he might have gone through while living on the streets.

I didn't pass judgement. [spelled judgment in USA]

Thank you Liz, I always love you reviews. comments, and help. You colleague sound like she might be Amish. Some people think very simple dress is more what God would approve of. In Carol's case, this man she was listening too had a lot of ideas, that I'm sure he didn't have scripture to back them up. If people starts to follow some human and take every word they say for gospel. it starts be a cult.
reply by Elizabeth Emerald on 24-Nov-2020
She's not Amish--she had always considered herself a devout Christian, then ten years ago she came to think she wasn't sufficiently devout given that she cared about her appearance. She and her like-minded group have their own "Church" of sorts.

So, when/how did Carol transition from there to where she is today?
reply by the author on 24-Nov-2020
After a divorce she went to a place that was supposed to help with grieving. They convinced her that the church had made her emotionally dependents. I think they might have gone too far in turning her away from the church. She went too far one way and then too far back the other way. Now she's into some other crazy belief. She believes in time travel and multiple dimensions and that we're in a matrix. It's too wild for me.

Dear Beth, this chapter of your story reveals quite a lot about the kind of the people your children were becoming. I was very happy to notice that they still came home from time to time and never did walk out on you.

Thank you Suzanne, It is true my children are developing their own personalities. Yes, they also came back home. At the time, they weren't in a position of being able to support themselves so they sort of had to come home.

I remember those years well. College is always an adventure when it involves our children. LOL I really enjoy reading your memoirs. I know you children and many others will enjoy them.

This time in our world was a time of superficial peace. We were not at war but the Cold War was always threatening Meanwhile it appears your life picked up the pace with your children becoming more educated and more independent. The action wasn't the problem, it was the thinking that begins to take over. I won't say worrying, just wondering and holding your breath as they meander through new experiences. The cult thing was a big worry in those days. I believe Ronald Reagan was one of the best Statesmen of our time.

Than you for the review and comments. Yes, the children were growing up the point they could take care of themselves but that didn't keep us from worrying about what they might do.

LOL. Having been there, done that!
    Right?
