This haikuish tercet, Bending With the Wind, has the proper formatting and seems to point to the masses who go wherever the wind blows.

You have made excellent use of your syllables--and of the symbolism--to describe people that just go with the flow, the crowd. They are the opposite of those who become combative over EVERYthing, because their opinions are always SO strong. Both need to find a middle ground! :-)

I really like the wisdom of this one, Lisa May. I like the analogy. I guess I like short poems that are memorable--ones that actually come to mind as situations occur. This one is perfect for that. I'll see spineless politicians blowing around the wind. I do think that I would switch it to blades of grass and still keep the reference to Whitman. Blades has a sharpness that doesn't fit, but I still like the use of blades though.
Great job. Merry Christmas by the way.

This is an interesting analogy and well thought out and created. The picture goes so well with your writing and does well to create the atmosphere. Best to you in the contest.

But remember the old Chinese proverb: When the typhoon blows, the bamboo bends in the wind.

We are preparing here for the onslaught of Storm Bella which has windspeeds of 70 m.p.h., meaning trees will fall and some damage to power lines etc - and quite possibly my WiFi!

The grass though, will survive.

I sense the political statement in this poem. And there seems to be quite a few spineless leaves of grass in parts of the world! Love the use of metaphor in this poem. And love that you had Walt in your heart as you composed it.

Maybe it is how I view things lately but I do see a political bend in this that is spot on.
Regardless, I enjoy this writing as those who bend on the direction of the wind are spineless.

Very well done, I like the imagery.

Metaphor central. Love it. Also love the nod to Whitman. I am so tempted to raise the political quill again in the light of this but I have promised to behave myself. - DJ

I do like the image of the grass, spineless as it is, being swayed whichever way the wind is blowing. A good image for people bowing to false gods as well, blown every way as suits their purposes. Good wishes for the contest.

What a wonderful analogy for our human concepts of right and wrong: "As they bend before false gods,
testing which way the wind is blowing,
spineless leaves of grass are swayed." Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings.
